Extraordinary people...

Stephen Wiltshire is an artist who draws and paints detailed cityscapes. As a child he was mute, and did not relate to other human beings. Aged three, he was diagnosed as autistic. He has a particular talent for drawing lifelike, accurate representations of cities, sometimes after having only observed them briefly.

In May 2005, following a short helicopter ride over Tokyo, he drew a stunningly detailed panoramic view of the city on a 10-meter-long canvas, from memory. Since then he has drawn Rome, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Madrid, Dubai, Jerusalem and London on giant canvasses.

The last drawing in the series was of his spiritual home, New York...

I learned about him few days ago and it's something that truly amazes me. I have deep difficulties even understanding and memorizing simple geometric shapes; drawings costs me big efforts if I want to be precise, and my being lazy is not helping me either. What makes me sad about Stephen and other ones like him is that they are missing a lot about life (lack of "proper" communication chances) and I don't think their magic gifts can fullfill those holes. Anyway, it's a quite vast topic. I just hope he will receive a lot of love from people and not only "wow" faces cos of his amazing skill.

Amazing. The attention to details is insane.

I don't totally agree with you Andrea, if people with exceptional skills choose to do things like that with their life and are happy doing so why not?

I suppose I explained myself bad Aleksander  I was meaning that even if they have amazing gifts they are still lacking some instruments for living a complete communication and build "normal" human relationships etc, and I feel it is sad that they can impress us but at the same time they are missing a big part of what human society living is. I hope it is more clear now

Fascinating!! And he is drawing my home city!! wooo!

I think his family would be proud that he has a special skill that he can devote his time to, because when I worked autistic children, it was a HUGE event if we could even get them to do an activity for more then 10-20 minutes.
Good for him! thanks for the post!
