If you are reading this I assume you are a facebook user and realize that one fifth of the traffic of the www comes to this one site everyday. Question is therefore, how to tap this traffic for profit? What do you do beyond setting up your profile and picture?

As I am an online business coach and get many of my business leads from facebook, I can say this with authority. Your first step is to add friends. Look for the search bar on top of the facebook page and type in your area of interest. For example you might be interested in dog training, being a dog trainer yourself. You will see a lot of 'groups', 'pages' and 'people' profiles.

Having got the options, open one of the pages / groups and scroll down to the place where they display the members / fans. Right-click to see them all in a new tab. This is the list of people who share your interest. How do you know? Because that's why they had subscribed to this page to begin with!

Your objective is to befriend about 40 - 50 people on this list every day. And as you do that (click on add as a friend) do remember to add a personal note so you come across as a genuine person. I write something like "Hello (theirname), I am Sandeep Nath and I guide people online to create secondary sources of income. We seem to have a common interest in (interest area). Let's be friends". You could use this with changes as necessary.

Once friends accept you, you can message them, chat with them, or invite them to games or whatever else may be of common interest. This is why your profile set up is important so your interests are known. And your choice of friends should be of your target group, to aid business.

The other thing to do is join 'Groups'. When you have 'searched' them, and they are of your interest area, join them too and post somethings on their 'wall' and 'bulletin boards'. Other group members tend to see this stuff and that could trigger a visit to your site. You could also 'Create a group' (look for the icon on top of your Groups list). By doing so you can invite all your friends and they can invite their friends and you can have quite a following if you are providing valuable input. Make sure you name your group attractively. In your group profile you can post pictures, videos and links. On a weekly basis you may also want to 'Message all members' so they could visit any sites you'd like them to or just read up some of your ideas and thoughts.

Using videos and photos is facebook's specialty. You can record a video directly or upload one from your computer. Having done so, you can tag it to people in your friends circle so it shows up on their profile pages. This makes your message visible to their friends. This is a very powerful technique but you must use it right to not appear to be a spam master.

Similarly, you can attach links to people's profile 'walls' to draw their attention to your site / article. Just be sure it is not an annoying link or message for that will be counterproductive.

In case your business is having an event, you can create an event using the icons and invite all your friends to it so the message spreads virally. Just be sure you are harnessing this platform with ethics and providing stuff people like to see. Else you may have to keep adding friends and may never have a relationship with any. So be smart about it and enjoy!
