Everybody has a different approach. I rarely send out a request, but I'm a soft touch as a receiver, especially if I get to be someone's first friend. I can always clean 'em out later.

I hate to say this, but one gender has to jump some little extra hoop to get on. bigsmile My friend list is way out of balance as a result.

When Harry sent me a friend request, I remember telling him that I was now going to feel compelled to extend the same courtesy to Dave, Brian, and Ruben. I'm not sure how it worked out that I've so far resisted the temptation. Probably because deep down inside they know that I love them all. Yeah. That's plausible.

I remember you telling me that. I do wonder why people who have never commented on my blog or vice versa, or exchanged comments on a forum thread suddenly send me a friend request out of the blue. That is a bit wierd confused

I've gotten very cynical the last year. Hmmmmm....must have been the 39 below I went out in last winter. Just wanted to feel what it felt like. Froze my brain I think. I reject all who send a request if they have never made a comment. Or, if they seem to be just friend collectors with 30 pages of friends. Or if all they have is blinking moving stuff and music you can't turn off. Not sure if it's because I'm getting older or what but the bright blinking and moving (gif's?) makes it hard for me to concentrate.

LOL ... I'm with you on that, Pam.
My particular "Friend Policy" is my only sticky post, but the damned fools keep asking anyway ... I think they must have some sort of contest going ... or maybe they're so inadequate-feeling (probably with good reason) that they need lots of reinforcement.

Agreed. My friends here are my friends regardless of whether they are on a list labeling them as such. I am not another's ego fodder. If someone wants a massive list of friends they've never attempted to communicate with they can stay on facebook and My Space.

The attempt to dissuade random friend requests used to be in the About Me field on the about page, but Opera recently disabled all formatting code in that field. So, I moved it here. And, yes I have received a friend request from someone I've never met since moving it here.
