What a mega show and man.

A funny memory of mine about Soul Train:

My second year of undergrad, I lived in the international dorm. For awhile I had a shy, quiet, Pakistani roommate. Every Saturday morning he would get up, put on club clothes, turn on the TV, and dance in the room to Soul Train. He was good at it.

It drove me crazy because Saturday mornings were when I was usually trying to sleep one off.

That's super-awesome! yes What a great cultural mingling that sounds like.

I was trying to come up with specific memories of Soul Train, but failed. All I could come up with was being very young and watching it on Saturday mornings primarily in the 70s and when not as young in the early 80s.

Don is indeed iconic in my memories.
