this is an old post that i had forgotten about. in trying to find a post about something else i stumbled upon this write. i do hope you enjoy the read.

dogs of all colors rule
fetch me the paper, fetch me my shoes
follow me here and rest at my feet
happiness starts whenever you bring me
to that wonderful place of your undying love
show me the way and i will follow you
guide me through this lonely life
even for only a brief moment in time
your love shines bright
forever in my heart shall you remain
my faithful companion
you don't even complain
i long to be as gentle a creature as you
my loving partner, my dog, my friend
time goes by too quickly for you dear boy
the lessons you've taught me will carry
over and will be shared with others
for the rest of time

narrative: 23 july 2006, this was written and inspired by jean luc, my male boxer. jean luc found me. he ran up to me with his tongue hanging out (he'd been chasing a female hound dog) from the highway. all he wanted was a drink of water. i offered him my mug which is usually filled with water. my friends gasped at the sight of a dog drinking from my mug. then, jean luc gave me a look and touched his body against my leg. he's never left my side. we had to call another friend to take us home, because the people i was travelling with refused to allow a stray dog in their suv. on the ride home, i was going through call names . . . none seemed to bring any attention to me from jean luc. i replied to my friend who was driving us home, "you know michael, this dog has the head and eyes of the captain from star trek (one of michael and my favorite past-times was watching star trek together), jean luc picard." upon that statement, jean luc stood up and licked me on the cheek. jean luc is not a licker and rarely does he give a kiss. jean luc is a hugger and he loves to snuggle! immediately, within the week, i had him vaccinated and made arrangements for him to be neutered. we've made so many friends over the many years we've been friends, that i will surely pass on his wisdom and love to each animal that enteres my life until the day i die! bb.
