A couple of days ago, supposed Islamic fighters attacked a border post just inside Saudi Arabia. Why they would do such a thing, when Saudi outguns them 50:1. Anyway, today Saudi used bombers & heavy artillery on Yemen. Off the coast a series of quakes, the highest seen at 5.8 (& revised down), with several 5.0 aftershocks, followed up a similar sized quake at Bandar Abbas, Iran that injured several hundred people.
The whole of Africa shook to get the quaking at Yemen. Malawi & Somalia having 5's - this predictably releasing stress on the Planet and allowing movement of the Indian Plate, with Taiwan having 2 larger rumbles, New Zealand area and Japan.
The Taiwan quakes knocking out phones and electric, train services and causing panic and buildings to sway all over the Country.

In 1066 William The Conqueror came to Britain, slaying the Saxon Harolde, instituting the Domesday Book to record just how much England was worth to him. Building Castles for his friends, the de Greys moved into Codnor. They then revamped the Church 5 miles away at Highnor, the only thing higher than the Castle. Fortunes waxed and wained and 300years on England was mainly Protestant. The Church, now almost a Cathedral, dominated the valleys around it, and enclaves of Catholics lived locally. It was far too big for a small hill top market town. I grew up playing in it's church yard and around the olde trackways and half demolished houses that would have been elegant, imposing and new at the time of the Gunpowder Plot in 1605, talking openly with the adults round and about who owned the mansions and lands around the Church.
In 1555, Nostradamus, Astrologer Royale, was finding his quatrains needed to be encoded to save him from execution. He had seen far into the future. 1555 was the birthdate of one of the conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot, born at Heanor, in the shadow of the Church, Henry Garnett. A strong Catholic priest, much of the plotting was said to have taken place farther South in England; but the plot was exceedingly well planned. Knowing the plot was complex and fraught and they likely would be found out and betrayed, the plotters cut themselves off from their backers at an early stage. Henry Garnett would have almost certainly used the family's house as a central HQ, for had the massacre succeeded, Heanor was to become the center of the plotters new insurgency. 
Located centrally (Trowell nearby was made the centre for the 1951 Festival of Britain), with the massive old church becoming a Cathedral, the Church St. is where the plotters met up. At the rear of the Church at the beginning of the Mansfield Turnpike, a coaching Inn and stables was able to feed & water the conspirators horses. The warren of streets, cellars, mansions, shoppes and halls nearby must have been alive with whispers of the plot.
It's my belief that even as early as 1600, as much of the new imposing building was taking place on Church St., plans were afoot to change it's name to Parliament St. . Nostradamus would have imparted his knowledge and fears to the higher Catholic hierarchy. Europe would only survive if United and at Peace. With Henry VIII's dissolution and Excommunication, the Gunpowder Plot was a highly involved long term piece of planning to bring Greater Peace to Europe.
One cannot say if it was meant to fail. The Catholics pray every night and would always have done what seemed right at the time. They are not immune to letting the plot be found out and Martyring themselves, if it was to serve the Greater Good.
400 years on and many of the hideous quatrains have come true. With less than 900 days to the Nuclear War and later extinction, is it time to unite regardless of faith, color or nationality and exile the 911's and desperate theatrical dramas to the 20th Century History books.

A few posts ago I highlighted that the Samoa event had barrelled the Indian plate more NW into Africa, eventually notching up the stress to the Mediterranean Sea. First Bulgaria, then Greece takes the brunt, whilst the granite apennines in Central Italy won't tell you they're suffering too much until they suddenly give way, like at L'Aquila. With the Indian Plate heading more West, the pressure at the Java Trench is lower and Krakatoa is quiescing even at Full Moon with the Sun now passing overhead each day.
 Sinking
Parts of the former land have sunk to the SW of Greece by 10 meters, leaving the Roman salt ports and Venusian & Neptunian temples open to snorkelling enthusiasts only. This is happening from Venice, along the Jugoslav coast, to the epicentre of today's quake. Seen originally as 5.9 by USGS, it was very shallow, and less than 40 miles from the Greek mainland. Put out as 5.6 by EuroMed and variously inbetween by the local news agencies.
Happening near a suspiciously deep round hole, these trench like quakes often exceed 6.0 or 7.0 Richter. Either this was the main event, or it was a precursor to the usual heavier type of quaking. Happening at Full Moon Set and just before sunrise, it's likely to be a major fault that opened slightly in response to the heavens, and dusk and dawn for the next few days may bring more shaking. Lot's of minor barely felt events, the width of Hellas, preceeded this rumble.
This doesn't bode well for Italy. Turkey's troubles all seem to be little ones, whilst further into Asia similar stresses are building...
Update: A relatively minor quake of around 5.0 at the port of Bandar Abbas in Iran causes many minor injuries and 50+ people to be hospitalised.
The Isrealiens concerned about a tsunami hitting them from one of these events. I would have thought their main concern as the administering power of occupation for Gaza, would be the welfare of the refugees.
Just this week the Mediterranean making plans to co-operate after a disaster and pool resources. Shooting firestarters and illegal immigrants might be a good start.
