Interesting duck! Reminds me a bit of the steamer ducks you find off southern South America. Very unusual. Can it fly?

... Whiro its Maori name.This species, a resident breeder of Aotearoa, is a powerful swimmer and hangs out close to rivers. The Blue Duck is totally reluctant to fly. . I grew up in Canterbury, South Island and i did not see one duck that didn't fly !!
