Look at what we could lose!

, , ,

There are lots of disbelievers and naysayers when it comes to global warming. I am certainly not in possession of all of the facts. I also would not want to risk losing even one of the animals in the video. That's why I recycle and do all that I can to reduce my own impact on the environment. Not to say that I am a saint when it comes to such matters, after all, I drive a car, as does my wife. I don't think that anything is about becoming a zealot or a martyr to the cause. I do think that it's time we stepped away from our dependency upon fossil fuels - after all, we have to at some point anyway, right? My own wild theory is that other alternatives have been suppressed in the past to continue our dependency on oil due to the high revenue it creates for all involved in it.

I don't see the point of some people - why be wasteful and dirty needlessly anyway? Even if global warming is a myth - which it isn't. The Earth is most certainly warming but the debate rages as to whether we, as a species are to blame. Surely it's common sense to stop pollution as much as possible, whatever? Even if you think that it's a plot or scare mongering (think Millennium Bug here) as so may seem to. It's almost as if the mentality is: "They can't put one over me with this scam! I will be as polluting as I like!" LOL The very same mentality as I get with some discussions with my six year old daughter in fact!

When I was in the Girl Scouts, we were taught to leave everything cleaner than when we found it. This was referring to a camp site, but it applies in just about every situation in life. I try to follow this advice today... but I still pollute, too. Cars, trash, ue of houehold chemicals... the list is endless.

Ah, well.

Yeah, but you do what you can I expect. We all pollute in some way - just that some do more than others! If you tried to use alternatives to everything that pollutes it would not be cost effective I suspect, and we all have families to bring up, etc. I think it's all we can do to do what we can and just hope that everyone else does too. :-)

you're so right. we all would do well to begin living with a little conscience. or like stephen hawkings recommends "start looking for another planet to move to."

No matter the truth. We need to do more to save our world.

As to the wild theory... I remember in the mid nineties my room-mate went to a job-fair at uni and had an interview with Shell. When he explained that he was very interested in alternative energy sources they laughed him out of the booth - a couple of years later Shell, BP, etc. were all suddenly trying to out-green each other. Read into that what you will.

And the Millenium Bug was NOT scare-mongering! One of the weirdest things about all of that is that the fact it was dealt with properly, such that nothing went wrong, is supposed to show that the problem never existed. If they hadn't been getting it media attention then there certainly WOULD HAVE BEEN serious problems all over the place!

I totally agree with your point of view. Sometimes, I admire our parents and grandparents who didn't have any idea about global warming (greenhouse effects...)but simply used everything they had very conservatively such as use a bulk of water to take a beth but not showering like the water would never ran out, squeeze a toothpaste tube until the very last little bit, reuse bottles and jars over and over again...We are just way too spoiled and messed up by being conservative with what we all should be liberal about and being too liberal with what we ought to be very conservative about.
