Global Warming and Religion

,

There have been ads on BBC or ITV (don't remember which) about a documentary on how religion is reacting to the threat of global warming. The ad states that religion often arrives late on the scene short of breath in any perceived major incident such as this.

It seems now though, that religion has decided that there is indeed an issue that they are the people to get the job sorted out. Well, lets hope so. It would make a nice change for religion to be able to put its name to something good for a change!

Funny though. A year ago my religious friends were most definitely fence sitters on the issue and now, guess what? They are green zealots. It was as if there was never a doubt! Their church must have intervened (divinely of course) and set them on a path to green nirvana (or is it Valhalla – or am I totally confused?). Well anyway. Thank God for religion.

UK to gain new "green" taxes

It looks like we are set for even higher taxes! Oh Joy! That'll sort everything out! Tax the UK public. Green Tax is on its way.

Is making us pay more for everything really the answer? We already pay an incredible amount of money in fuel tax - so how is even higher taxing going to work? I know that some of the taxes go towards creating and improving public transport as we have just been "improved" in my area. The "improvement" is incredible, clean buses taking up half of the road. Clean because they are unsullied by any people and taking up half the road because we have new bus lanes. How much damage to the environment does this cause? Surely empty buses cruising about all day must use up lots of fuel!

I would like the UK to be greener than it is but I think that the powers that be are mostly ill informed and actually add to problem rather than solve anything. I would love to see the long-term forecasts of some of the ridiculous schemes that they come up with - taxing everything out of existence being one of them.

UK to lose Cheap flights?

, ,

I heard today that if the UK is to reach emission reduction targets then we have to forfeit cheap flights. I suppose that this was always on the cards but is such a shame. I dread to think of the ramifications of this should it go ahead as not just holiday makers and family's benefit from cheap flights, and I wouldn't mind betting that several companies have been spawned taking advantage of them.

I personally probably won’t be able to take my family skiing in France next year if this should go ahead. I know that the sacrifice is worth it for my children in the long term, but I do have to say that I feel sorry for them in the short.
