There are lots of disbelievers and naysayers when it comes to global warming. I am certainly not in possession of all of the facts. I also would not want to risk losing even one of the animals in the video. That's why I recycle and do all that I can to reduce my own impact on the environment. Not to say that I am a saint when it comes to such matters, after all, I drive a car, as does my wife. I don't think that anything is about becoming a zealot or a martyr to the cause. I do think that it's time we stepped away from our dependency upon fossil fuels - after all, we have to at some point anyway, right? My own wild theory is that other alternatives have been suppressed in the past to continue our dependency on oil due to the high revenue it creates for all involved in it.
I don't see the point of some people - why be wasteful and dirty needlessly anyway? Even if global warming is a myth - which it isn't. The Earth is most certainly warming but the debate rages as to whether we, as a species are to blame. Surely it's common sense to stop pollution as much as possible, whatever? Even if you think that it's a plot or scare mongering (think Millennium Bug here) as so may seem to. It's almost as if the mentality is: "They can't put one over me with this scam! I will be as polluting as I like!" LOL The very same mentality as I get with some discussions with my six year old daughter in fact!
I see that the UK Government or local councils (probably on the say so of the Government) have decided that it might be a cool idea to start charging us by kilo for the waste that we produce. Now, don't get me wrong, I am all for lessening the impact on the environment by being responsible with waste and recycling as much as possible, but don't you think it's a bit of a cop out? The councils are certainly onto a good thing here.
We pay council tax to have rubbish removed: a considerable amount of money in some areas, and rising all the time. We are already capped to one bin full of rubbish per week and expected to dispose of what is extra ourselves. Not that I mind taking plastics to the plastic recycling place or bottles to the bottle recycling place, even though they are in separate directions and a few miles apart.
However, is it fair that the price to remove waste keeps increasing whilst what is actually taken is decreasing? Or is it the councils taking advantage and taking advantage by playing the environmentally friendly card? I see it happening more and more, global warming costs the taxpayer more money per year. And I *want* to be green. I can't imagine how others feel who have no passion for a healthy environment.
I feel a bit sorry for the sports ground owners here in the South East UK. Golf course owners are not allowed to water their greens and are more than likely having to buy water by the container to keep their courses alive. I know that the one near me has access to private well water so they shouldn't struggle too much.
It makes you wonder if anyone could ever be successful in taking a water company to court and sue for losses in a case like this. I know that nobody can control how much water falls out of the sky but surely the water authorities have a responsibility to supply us the water that we pay for? After all, I don't believe that water is actually in shortage, just the collection, storage and delivery of it.
