New Youtube Channels?
Sunday, 5. July 2009, 15:21:19
I thought I would post something on it to see what you guys think.
UPDATE: Youtube has fucked up my channel. Absolute bigots. Do they ever listen? I wonder how long I should stay on Youtube for now. It's become stupid and boring. Not like the exciting Youtube of 2005-2007 anymore. Just stupid boring commercial crap. That's what happens when you hand over a promising site to a major corporation.
Hmm... It seems Youtube is going mad. They are forcing EVERYONE to their new "Youtube 2.0 BETA" channels.
Well I have a question for Youtube (having been watching videos from Youtube since 2005) now.
Look at this video and tell me what positive things the original "Youtube 1.0" channel cannot do:
Channels redesigned to improve overall user experience
Oh yes - they are improving Brian Glick's user experience. I think he is using us. That's what I call a user!
Looking cooler on the channels
Hey! I have seen MUCH COOLER "Youtube 1.0" channels! In fact they look cooler than the 2.0 channels. Happy?
Many partners and users have already migrated to new channels
I'll say! On 15th July EVERYONE will migrate! Why? Because they HAVE TO. They have NO OTHER CHOICE.
I am also under the impression that new accounts automatically get the 2.0 channels without much of a choice. How many of those users and partners do you actually know Youtube?
Oh wait...did he say "many of our users" or "many of our loosers"?
Making your channel your home on Youtube
Wait... I feel home on my channel already! In fact I feel more at home on my channel! Having looked at other users' 2.0 channels I have at least one reason I am not upgrading. The new channels do NOT look and feel like home.
I wonder if "foster care" or "assimilation place" would be a better way of describing 2.0 channels.
A place that lets your visitors interact and engage with you, your videos, and what matters to you
And this time they can do so with much greater difficulty!
OK - so what matters to me is my channel. I like it the way it is. I guess that doesn't matter to you eh Glicko?
PS: My channel already lets my visitors interact and engage with me - and any videos I have marked as favorites! Thank you.
"We want it to reflect your identity, to be your hub for storing and showing all of your uploaded and favorited videos"
My channel does that already. No 2.0 here required. Oh wait... 2.0 can do this with more difficulty especially since everything is out of place and unorganized now!
A way for your friends to connect with you
Nobody will want to be my friend because my channel will look crap thanks to you forcing the stupid design on me Youtube!
Very customizable and easy to edit so that you can control and personalize the design
The 1.0 channel does that better. In fact I don't need a 68cm flat screen TV to help me do it either (because with the new ones apparently you are stuck with viewing the channel on half a page and viewing the edit options on the other half)
Also making 2.0 optional is a perfect opportunity for you guys to make it even easier to personalize it. Just don't select it by default and I'll be happy.
New video navigator - lets others view the videos on the channel itself
Well OK to be fair that is a bit of an improvement (for once) and I kinda like this one - but WHY can't users comment directly on it? Oh that's right - because most of the space is occupied already. Not much room for favorites list etc. You know what I mean?
Easy to link to a particular video on your channel
Yawn. Seen that before. In fact it is much better the way it is now.
Let's hope we don't have to embed the entire channel just for the video! Well it might not be like that since this will break every existing embedded Youtube video on the Internet.
Ability to edit modules, colors, and themes, etc directly on the channel page
Hey Brian! I have a 1024×768 monitor! How can I edit the channel using a separate page and view the changes later? Oh yeah and I would rather have a preview before my channel changes rather than have it change immediately. And what the bloody hell happened to transparency?!
Can also choose explicitly which video content you would like to display and how it is presented in the video navigator
Hey! You can do that in the 1.0 channel! You can select whether or not the Favorites are displayed etc.
And it isn't as messy as dumping everything in the navigator.
Featured videos
ALL NEW! It's been moved to A DIFFERENT POSITION! WOW! I'M SO EXcited and i just cant hideitimabouttolosecontrolandi...think....i........like...........it......<yawn/>
Advertising
Despite contrary belief Brian this is NOT an improvement. Would you like to have ads for dating sites and IQ tests on your channel?! (Brian - I suggest you click on the ones for the IQ tests - I would LOVE to see the results!)
If I get payed $500 per click I don't mind the ads on my channel. But since I don't get payed at all I don't like it.
I am sure afraid to become a Youtube partner! I hope this doesn't apply to ordinary channels too (I am guessing it will in the near future knowing you guys!)
You may need to make a few small tweaks to your colors and backgrounds, especially if you have a very custom background
Will clicking "Delete my account" work too?
All channels will soon be automatically transferred to the new design so that you don't have to
Hey guys! I don't have to! I don't WANT to! Will my new channel get transferred even if I don't WANT to?!
If you do switch over though you will be ready ahead of time
Cool! I didn't know you could have negative time!
Conclusion
Have a look at the comments on that video clip above. Go there and post a comment on the video clip above. Wait at least 15 minutes. It is likely to go to Page 2 - with >99.999% of the comments showing how bad the channel is.
Opera users: right click and go "Reload Every" then go "5 Minutes" and you'll know what I mean.
Youtube has been becoming more and more like "SueTube" (since 2007 - with WMG and Disney and Sony BMG etc on the loose) or "GlueTube" (people being forced into getting the new design making them "stick" on their channel) or "PooTube" (it is becoming a load of shite) or whatever you can call it (post a comment below and tell me what names you can think of!)
I liked it better in their 2005-2007 years. What about you?
Feel free to post a comment on these new channels (and forcing them on us)! "Swearing" is fine with me!

I started a new group on my other non-BETA you-tube channel about atheism. But, my group page came out BETA! There was no way to change the group page and there was no option for it to be non-BETA, when I made it! It said my topic could be 500 characters long, but no matter what I did, it only reveals part of the first line of what I wrote! There are no options to see or adjust anything that worked! I even tried chrome and it still didn't work! And, I can't find any kind of proper tech support for the users! I wouldn't mind BETA, if it actually worked right and improved the user experience, but, this is a tech nightmare! I don't expect any good advice because I figure if there were any, I probably would have found it by now. But I do appreciate you giving me a place to rant. Thank you!

Apparently partners have to have advertisements on their new channels too. I know at least 2 partners who do not like the Youtube 2.0 Beta - and also note that the top dogs of Youtube (like Fred and Smosh and all those) have NOT upgraded yet - it is surpising they don't get the hint.

I wouldn't mind it either if there wasn't a significant visual change - the new 2.0 channels are just crap and they look even worse. If there were more options in the 2.0 that allowed me to customize the look even more - as opposed to forcing a completely new and horrible hard to organize look on existing channels - it would probably be OK
It's quite stupid that Youtube can't fix the obvious - such as their dodgy comment system and all that.

No worries mate! After all we all need to rant about this from time to time! That's one reason too why I allow "swear words" (BTW I don't believe there should be any such thing as Swear Words - this was coined by a bunch of religious bastards who had lots of spare time up their sleeves!) in the comments. Even I need a place to rant occasionally.
You can post on the video mentioned above too (note that within 10 minutes or so it is likely that your comment will be on page 2 or 3 and newer comments which clearly indicate dislike of the channel will be posted!)
And the more people that rant about this the better.

I 'absofuckinglutly'agree about the bastards coining the swearing, lol. I hate how they let the planet go to 'shit' because they think the second coming will happen, and their g-d will clean up their mess.
I also agree about, 'the significant visual change'. I could handle a little change, but it aggravates the hell out of me that the profiles are on the bottom.
Even though, I'm sure you already have a fairly good idea, if you would like to see exactly what I meant by 500 words, the group is on my Aspie Channel, 'bornagainatheists'.
I am there because I am blocked out of 'angryangelhouse'. I can't even get a password reset for 'angryangelhouse'. The email never comes. Youtube's idea of tech-support is an absolute joke, unless you're an advertiser. "But, you already know that. I must be ranting again."
Oh, and you are very much right about the dodgy comment system. It only works 50% of the time for me. Otherwise my comments will appear twice or not a all, and they often appear in the wrong place. "Still ranting, apparently."
I have thought to move my channels to another video site, but there are so many. Some of them really limit your creativity and who's to say another one wouldn't be just as buggy (veoh seems to be) or that the tech-support would be any better.
I know you've said you were thinking to make your own, but, wouldn't you lose so much the networking aspect of it? I guess I only bring this up because, I was wondering if you have had any success yet in your search yet.
My tolerance of 'Big YouTube, has really gotten thin since I was blocked out. I do feel better having a place to rant about this. It gets frustrating when you need a good rant and can find no one to listen. Thank you. Would it be alright if I subscribed to your YouTube channel?

I mean words are words. It isn't going to hurt anyone if I call them a fucking idiot (well I do think that title goes towards Youtube's product management

I may post my own videos on my own website. I am not sure about using Youtube for that one. I'll have to see what to do about it.
After all, a whole website to yourself is usually more easier for me to customize than this "Youtube 2.0" crap.
Even though they have extended the date - curiously it seems that the name wasters on Youtube (those who haven't logged in for years!) have already managed to get their channel automatically switched ("Last signed in 3 years ago" is not uncommon on those channels)

Thank you. I will give an update, but not right now, after I have had a good rest.

I really enjoyed your responses last time. You have a great way of putting things. It's just sad that there is so must truth to them. I sorry I didn't update until now. I was abstaining from ranting. Well, Youtube finally fixed their password delivery system. But, before I got back in I called the techsupport number, long distance, and all I got was a recording telling me to go to google.com. What did I really expect by calling? Service? I am so naive sometimes. After I got back in, I was still too upset to do anything with it because of the routine disruption. But, now, I'm back to uploading content again. I still don't trust them, but, I don't like my other options either. Aaaahhhh! I tried to sub you, but your sub button wasn't there for me since you deleted your uploads. I've seen sub buttons on other channels that didn't have uploads, but maybe they had some on private. Or, maybe just another problem Youtube hasn't bothered to fix. I've had some new YouTube problems, but maybe I will tell you about those later, if your interested. I'm just been hesitate to talk too much lately, that's all. I would like to talk to people more, but I'm a bit worried to because I keep scaring people off, not just my whole life, but lately as well. It's like I have the 'aspie curse'. I even scare off other aspies.

I think you tried doing it when Youtube was performing maintenance. I have 3 subscribers already (which is quite a surprise!) and I never uploaded any videos in the first place. Youtube tends to do strange things when under maintenance.
Try again in a little while and see if it works.

I think it probably has something to do with the fact that people with Asperger syndrome (like me) can't tell what will scare others or not. We can't tell what is rude and what is not rude unless it is the bleeding obvious (such as calling someone a dirty bastard and yelling at them continuously) - and what normal people call "obviously rude" may not necessarily be so obvious to us.

Damned yt, No...the button still isn't there. Do your other subs use beta? When I set up my second non-beta channel I couldn't even sub myself, until I uploaded something. Well, at least we have a second option. Is it OK for me to talk about aspie issues on here? Or, did you want it reserved for our YT rants? I just thought I had better ask first.

About the subbing: only one I know of uses the beta the others don't use it yet.

damn, i just noticed yt has put that 'New YouTube channels are coming soon!' thing back on my channel. i still can't get my beta group to work. they aren't anywhere near fixing it. i don't understand why they would want to publish such soppy work. some people say it's to conserve server space. i'll bet that is why they do all those account suspensions. to saver server space. i have seen so many uncalled for, unfair account suspensions. i saw nothing wrong with those accounts. i like the 'I call shenanigans' thing, btw. it took me by surprise.

a reverse merger? hmm interesting! but you know google's too money-hungry-greedy for that. they only provide customer service to the ad pimps. all american business is cold hearted. other nations should all refuse to do business with america just on principal. anyone here that doesn't have a big posh education gets worked half to death with no benefits. when you do find a job with benefits. the benefits are a complete joke. they don't do anything for you. but it don't matter because their aren't enough jobs here anyway. and govt assistance is even worse. you can't hardly qualify unless you're pregnant. and if you are disabled you have to fight them in court for 3 to 5 years to get anything. europe is better! is your country nicer?

Oh yeah I forgot - the world's biggest search engine don't know regex.
Our legal system is probably as bad as America - maybe a little worse too.
