Jerry Ahern is quite prolific the field of Aggressor fiction writing the post-apocalyptic series The Survivalist and The Defender, as well as They Call Me The Mercinary (as Axel Kilgore) and Track.He adds The Takers to that list. His heroes are Josh Culhane and his girlfriend M.F. Mulrooney. Josh is the sucessful author of The Takers series featuring Sean Dodge and M.F. is the author of books on the occult. The pair are sent in search of the Gladstone Log, through the death of Josh's twin brother Jeff.
The log shows the results of Prime Minister William Gladstone's expedition to find Atlantis, finding a starbase in Antartica (Hmm I wonder if the people behind Stargate: Atlantis have read this book)
Culhane and Mulrooney join a modern expedition to this starbase in a race against Steiglitz and his psychotic daughter Sonia.
An adventure author as an adventurer is an interesting premise for a series especially when Culhane occassionally says "let's see Sean Dodge top this." Kinda like a book about Clive Cussler ("Let's see Dirk Pitt top this"). Recommended.
