Afghanistan Facts

Afghanistan is a state in south of Asia, and count as a part of Central Asia. The country has a lot if montaíns and no coastline. The mighty montainmassive called "Hindukush" meaning -stop India, goes thrue the whole country from north-east to the west border.10% of the area of this rough country is useful for farming. The fresh water is limited. The clima is like other countries with no coast warm summers and cold winters. It is a country where earthquakes are common. It is surrounded by Pakistan in the south and east, Iran in the west, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Tadzjikistan in the north,China in the east. The name Afghanistan means " The land of the Afghans".
During the early ages it was called Ariana or Bactria.During the middle age the name Khorasan was used.
Afghanistan is a republic and was delceared índependent from The united Kingdom 1919 after many years of opression. It was controlled by the brittish impire the whoole century 1800. The nations constitution is from 1923.
It is a state that have suffered from war in all times of its history. And it is a long history.
In 1978 the Afghan communistparty got the power by weapons. The communistregim was cahllanged by Mujaheddin, wich was supported by the USA who armed and trained 35000 gerillasoldiers from the Mujaheddin. When the communistregim was near to surrender the Sovjetunion invaded Afghanistan and during the following ten years the country was suffering under the Afghan-Sovjet war.Sovjet retired in 1989.The inside war in Afghanistan created caos! In 1996 Taliban got the power supported by The USA and Pakistan. The new law of Sharia was a fact. We all knew about the actions the led to the war wich still goes on today. The terroristattacs on on the amarican ambassades in Kenya ans Tanzania, And the towers in NY. When taliban refused to give up Osama Bin Laden to The USA wich decleared war and the UN made sanctions against Afghanistan. Afghanistan was attaced by the USA 7/10-2001. And the Taliban was defeeted. But it is still strong and fights and will never give up. They are terrorising the Afghanistan people and the women and children are suffering. And so are everyone who not believe in the Sharialaws.
In the end of 2001 the there was a initiativ taken to the ISAF - International Security Assistance Force. This force is operating in Afganistan to keep peace, support the president Hamid Karzais gouvernment, keep the law and order, help rebuild the infrastructure of the country and defend human rights!
The country get a lot of economic support for reconstruction.

Today Taliban are controlling 10% of the country. Afghanistan is an extremly poor country.Warlords are terrorising all over. The Infrastructure is totally out of order. There are still a lot of landmines and splittermines left out in the area. The women of Afghanistan still have to wear burka and can not move free. They have to followed by a male relative outside the house. If they brake a law they will be punished. The only work allowed for women outside the home are healthcare.Less than 10% of the women can read and write. There are still Sharia...Girls still get married at age 12-15 years. The women have separate hospitals of very low standard.70 000 women dies every year in childbirth and coplication from it. Schools for girl are bombed by Taliban. For about 4 years ago 1 milj cildren in Afghanistan was attending school none of them girls, now with the work of the ISAF and help from outside 4 milj children goes to school and 35% of them are girls. The people who dedicate there service to Afganistan does a difference!!

I wanted to know what she where going to face down there and what difference she will make for humanity!
I am not saying I was happy and shouted yippie when she told me, and I am sure I am going to have a terrible time in six mounth until she is back, but I am sure she will make a difference!! All the soldiers and helporganizations will, even if it will take a long long time!

And I am so very proud of her!!! And of all who does there service to protect and develope democraty!! And stands up for human rights.
We all should!!
At least we all should be proud over our soldiers in Afghanistan and support them in every way we can! they are on a hard and important mission and they are risking there lives!!!!!!! For human rights and democraty!
There are many parants out there like me that will go to bed worried every night praying for there children, and some of us will never see them alive again!

Please remeber our soldiers and children in your praiers and remeber the Afghanistan people!!!

Support the helporganizatons so moore children can go to school and learn to read and write. Education is the key to defeet Taliban! People must be educated so they can read the holy books by themselves and see what thay really says!Education is FREEDOM!

I belive in God! I really do! And so does this human beeings! If we call him God, Allah or anything else does not matter! We have to show every human respect and all shall have the same rights some day! We must belive in that!

You should be proud of your daughter, we all should be, just as we should all care about her welfare and safety and the welfare and safety of all our troops "over there".

Agneta, the U.S. gets slammed constantly for the war we are in. Obama is sympathetic to the Sharia law and Islam, and is refusing to send more troops to Afghanistan. If he doesn't we will lose and freedom will be lost. We fight for freedom----freedom of religion, freedom of choice, freedom to be an individual. And I will always uphold that creed. Freedom has to be fought for. It doesn't come naturally because there are always those who want to have power over others.
\
The Sharia Law is trying to be introduced into America. Do you know that Sharia law, as well as putting to death women who leave Islam and who commit adultery, allows a husband or father to have his daughters castrated---her clitoris surgically removed---supposedly so she won't feel sexual desire and be tempted to stray. That is evil on so many different levels I can't even speak to it.

No religion or peoples should be able to practice the laws that are practiced by these people. That is wrong in the eyes of everyone except the people who are practicing it.

I will pray for your daughter Sanna, as I also pray for my great nephew in Iraq. They both are doing a good thing; they both are in danger.

Sanna has my admiration and thank you for her part in fighting for freedom.

der WandersmannderWandersmann Thursday, October 22, 2009 2:41:21 AM

Wish I could ride shotgun for your girl, though I suppose there's support in the platoon. I've done that, but maybe I've slowed down a mite, in the past few ... uh ... decades. (Blush!)

Norfridnorfrid Thursday, October 22, 2009 6:44:51 AM

I really admire your daughter and her boyfriend working for what they believe in. But I don't admire the Scandinavian countries that we partisipate in the war in Afganistan. I've read those two books and to read about the womens situation in that country can make you cry. Despite all this horror a young female writer from Afganistan wants the foreign soldiers out of her country, and she gives the reasons for it in her book. I have not read it yet, but I'm considering buying it. Here's a link to an article about this writer:

dirkthetomster Thursday, October 22, 2009 9:20:38 AM

smile I really feel a deep respect for everyone working this way for that they believe in. each and every single one of them I include in my prayers and wishes ... besides the stupidity of war and what it does to people ... I've done this kind of job myself, caring for so called minefield children in Africa, Asia and Afghanistan ... in the 80's ... and I know haow it feels like ... I know how it feels like having the strong belief to do what it is the only right thing and I know what it feels like doing it ... then ... far away and hoping that someone at home will think about what you are doing under a different sky ... respect smile

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Thursday, October 22, 2009 9:38:03 AM

Linda, I could not agree moore. The Sharia law is some of the most evil on this earth! It is the ultimate opression of women! And the coming generations of daughters and how much I fear and despice war between humans, when it comes to this I rest my case! Taliban do not understand the power of word or love, only weapons!
Afghanistan is a country where the whole population is ruled by the power of a few who keeps the majority in analphbetism.
The common people are in that postiton that thay have to trust the ones who are reading the koran for them.
And they way they do it is not what Allah ment, I am pretty sure about that! I have red it!
And shall not forget that our bible i 600 years older than the koran, thay are very alike!!And they do not pleed for war or kill! Or opression of women or people in common. Everyone is the same before God!
War in the name of religion is a shame!Does not matter if it is the old knigts in the middleage who fought islam or today when Taliban fight the chrstianity!
But war to give humans human rights, thats something else, even if I wish we could solve it in a peaceful way!

Norfrid, I can understand your point! But, when I made all the studies in this matter I have found out I support this case in history! I wanted to know what my daughter and all other soldiers where doing there and for what reason they where going to war! I wanted to have the knowledge to stand up for my daughter and the scandinavien troups!
We should be proud over our troups In Afghanistan and support them in all ways we can!
They are doing a fatnastic job togheter with the Afghanistan policeforce and military, they are there to support them and stand behind them when they are building up there country!
They make a great difference for the children and especielly the girls when it comes to education and healthcare! And for the women! They are fighting and supporting development and human rights!
The most of the civilians are very greatful and means that we are making a great great difference!
The military hospitals are helping many civilians and also take care of wounded talibansoldiers.
Never forget, This is for the human rights!!It makes a difference! The troups are there tp protect the peace and to support the civil population!

Wandersman, You have a great place in heart for your words!! I would be much moore calm and hopeful if you where there with her!!

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Thursday, October 22, 2009 9:39:44 AM

Thank you Dirk!!!!!!
I may have to ventilate with you during her servicetime!! I am sur you will be a big support to me!! Thanks!!!

MettePusilille Thursday, October 22, 2009 5:22:20 PM

I would sit myself on top of her and never let go until she said she would not go!!!
I am sorry Agneta, but I do not agree on our kids going to war somewhere else in the world!
They are not trained as good as these soldiers think themselves!
All the mental health during their stay, the mental health after they return home, reactions that occur later in life.
I can not help it, we have had a few family members that has been traveling to different parts in Asia as soldiers. We do not like what we see.

der WandersmannderWandersmann Thursday, October 22, 2009 5:27:42 PM

War is ugly.

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Thursday, October 22, 2009 9:04:38 PM

Yes, war is ugly and cruel!! I will be first to agree to that and I think the humanity have not come so far as it should during centuries!!
But, I can not decide for my grown up kids! I do not have that right! No one have.... They make there own decsitions and I have tried to make my daughters to strong independent and rightthinking people and I think I have succeded!
Of course as a mother I have tried to talk her out of it, but still I am proud over her! Proud that she will do something for what she believes in!
And standing up for human rights, women and childrens rights and democraty can never be wrong in my eyes!
It can not be wrong to support the civilians in a country suffering from war and provide healhtcare and projects to educate women and children!
Our troups, the ones from Scandinavia, Finland, Germany, Usa,England are troups who operate under the Afghanistan military and policeforce as a support, helping to organize and rebuild this country. The plan is to make them independent and selvhelped. To build a democraty and give the people freedom and education.
I have red a lot about this country and I have been really interested and fascineted of the people and the culture.
If I had a opportunity I would go there myself as a nurse to try to make a difference, I might do that, I think about it a lot!And if I was younger I have not hasitated a minute!
Of course I am worried about all the things my daughter will see and be part of during her service, but they are welltrained, handpicked and have a great supporting crises team!I am not naiv, But I think they know what they do!

MettePusilille Thursday, October 22, 2009 9:21:29 PM

I am sorry Agneta, I feel you are a kind of defensive now, and you are right to do that.
We have different opinions on the subject, so I will not go further in how I feel about this.
I am sorry.
I did not mean to upset you dear!!!

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Thursday, October 22, 2009 10:12:11 PM

It is ok, I am not upset! And everyone have there own oppinion and thats what makes disusions interesting!
That whats blogforums are fore!
You always love your friends even if you do not agree in everything they say or do!!
Hugs to you my friend!! smile love

antoniettafainoantonietta Friday, October 23, 2009 1:11:45 PM

This is a very serious and important debate, and for this I want to give my personal contribution. We, mothers, want the maximum good possible for our children. Sometimes this maximum intersects with a broader need: the welfare of the children of other mothers in other countries.
War exists because man has existed, and man is aggressive from the dawn of its birth.
During the thousand-year history, the man attacked another man only by necessity of its survival, but things have changed in recent decades,
When conflicts erupt between nations or between regions of the same nation, we can'nt conceal from ourselves that there are also economic reasons, or political reasons of political expediency, or reasons of territorial conflicts...
If we are asked for help, because we can manage refugee camps, or because we work in hospital camps , or we get in touch with the people and initiate friendly contact with them, if we do this, WE MUST DO THIS, ALWAYS and wherever request our humanitarian work and helping people.
In Afghanistan as in Bosnia, as in Congo, as in Brazil, sending the soldiers or the missionaries, with volunteers, or the ONLUS nonprofit....
We can not dwell in discussions or thoughts of moral or moralistic principles.
Because is'nt this what they are asked to us.
We must hope that our aid, our model of willingness to provide assistance, is the EXAMPLE to people in conflict, so they can understand that there is another way of life, another kind of freedom, so that they can find in themselves the power to change their lives and their condition.
Our soldiers who go to these countries, protect the civilian population, and sometimes, as in Afghanistan, also protect us who stay at home, and we can safely surf the web...
I am grateful to all these " heart Sanna heart " who represent us and as long as they are, I can hope for the future of humanity.
Forgive me, I've been so long worried smile

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Friday, October 23, 2009 1:25:48 PM

Thank you so much for you long and great words! I could not agree moore! It is simply oue duty to do whatever we can to help other humans! To get the human rights that we all have the right to!We all shoule read the UN definitions of what is the húman rights!
We here in our countries are near them human rights but there are so many who is not!
You are right, the people who do this gives us hope!!!
We must keep this disskusions open and alive and support them all we can!! yes

der WandersmannderWandersmann Friday, October 23, 2009 2:35:15 PM

War is ugly, but sometimes there is no choice. We cannot remain free while others are oppressed. We must answer their need, or we are slaves ourselves.

I really don't fancy riding on that vehicle with Sanna while being shot at by rude strangers, but I would do it, if asked, because it is the right thing to do.

Now you must excuse me while I go clean my rifle and revolver. LOL wink

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Friday, October 23, 2009 8:00:25 PM

MettePusilille Friday, November 6, 2009 8:52:33 AM

Agneta, jeg går over til å skrive på mitt morsmål ettersom det er en del misforståelser ute og går.
Så nå håper jeg du dukker opp og kommenterer på svorsk eller svensk eller norsk eller hva du vil smile

Eva MrLeffe Friday, November 6, 2009 12:12:13 PM

I have read these comments so many times. I can not stay silent I have to make my comment in this. What Sanna is about to do, her mission, her fight for a better world. She has got my fully respect. Some years ago my daughter Ida went on her mission. To make a change among the poor of the poorest. The childern left in the street to die because of their handicap the girls being sold because there are too many girls in the family. There is no war with guns, bombs, flightrades. It is an other kind. She have got in her heart a few words she is bringing with her all the time.
I think these words are so important, so true, and as close we can get.
So here they are:
We can not help all people, but we can make a difference for some

I have been living in war and revolution. I have seen the fears. I have woken up in the middle of night with no security no safe place. Waiting for the worst. It can not be described.I stop here. I will be here.

Once more I do wish Sanna the very best in her mission.
This was coming form my heart smile smile heart

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Friday, November 6, 2009 2:37:22 PM

Thanks again Leffe!! it means a lot for me and Sanna! You know that!

And those words should everyone say to themselves every evning before they go to sleep and think about what they could do for others! You do not have to go on missions like this,
Work at soupkitchen for the homeless, have a fosterchild somewhere in the world, be a supportperson for drugadicts or young criminals, give a coin to some good organization there are so much everyone of us can do!!

Will you help the girls in Afganistan to get education there are several organaizations who are working there!Red Cross, Save the children are some!
And do not gorget doctors without borders!!

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Sunday, November 8, 2009 5:53:46 AM

Hi Ida!
tanks for stopping by and thanks for your wishes!
You are a wise young woman and you have my deepest respect and admiration for your work!!
All who works in there believes to change the world and in any way fight for human rights, democraty and the aquality between men and women have!We can all do a difference for someone!!!!!!!!!

And it not so many years the women got there rights to vote here in Sweden and I think we still have some steps left to go in some ways!

Personaly I would not choose war to be the way to change the world, I think that the humans in 2009 should be wise enough to live in peace and respect for eachother, but.....
But, I support the ones who do this to make a difference!
I have my way,My daughter have hers and you have yours!
I hope veryone reading this will do something thr make a difference for someone!!!

by the way Ida, thanks for thr correction, I must have slpit on the buttons, one zero to much, i will fix it!

Hugs to you! heart

Lady, you have the deepest respect from me, not only for your courageous attitude but for your sense of reasoning. As a person who is living close to Afghanistan,I can say the Afghans are a proud,& freedom loving people and are in no way responsible for the evil war which has been thrust upon them. The Afghans make true friends and value the meaning of friendship of those who are helping them to achieve peace.I fully agree with you, and assure you of my cooperation in any way to be of assistance to you when and if needed. God be with you and Sanna always. Denis....

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Sunday, February 7, 2010 1:14:36 PM

It is good that here we can support each other morally if not in person .There are many people who take time to cheer someone, to give love to those who need affection, Help the disabled, etc. Helping others by any means no matter how small it may be has an enormous effect on their lives.I am glad there are people in the world today who live for others.

Agneta MuhrAgnetaM Wednesday, February 10, 2010 3:22:09 PM

You are so right!! what else should we believe in??? We must believe we can make the world a better place for all humans together!!
