A few days ago I sent this to everyone at Opera announcing that I would leave the company September 1st. I also wanted to share it with everyone I've meet trough my time here at Opera, so here is the minor edited version.
Early in the summer of 2008 I entered the Opera offices in Waldemar Thranes gate in Oslo. Without really knowing what I had gotten myself into I started the humongous task of working with My Opera and our amazing fans. After a while we started doing crazy things like Facebook and Twitter in addition to My Opera. After some trying and failing we became really good at it as well. We even started hiring more and more amazing people to keep growing our social channels. My Opera was still a huge part of what we did, but it seemed like this social media thing was going to stick around for a while.
We did a lot of fun things those days such as introducing Opera Face Gestures and launching on iOS (with our super cheap and successful Approved campaign). We also sneak previewed and teased Opera Unite in the most successful campaign in Opera's history. I also had the great opportunity to travel around and see both Opera and other offices all over the world. I also meet and became friends with an amazing amount of talented people from all over the world.
Looking back it's pretty obvious that it's the people I'll miss the most from my time in Opera. From random encounters at Friday beer to friends that left years ago. I still keep in touch and even when I travel outside of work I frequently drop by friends and former colleagues all over the world. My understanding of the world has forever been changed thanks to your friendships. From the bottom of my hear - thank you for being you!
So where does the road go from here? Well, I'll be working with marketing and digital advertisement in the Norway, I just bought a proper apartment, so if you ever need a place to crash or want to grab a beer in Oslo, you probably know how to reach me.
As for Opera? I love the new 15 and in a few updates it will become even better. I've gotten a glimpse of what's to come on other platforms as well and it looks amazing. I only hope our fans understand how much hard work and pride you put into the products now and in the future. I'll keep following Opera and I'm sure someone will pick up after me and keep everyone all up to date with news and cats in the future.
It's been an amazing ride I will be forever grateful for. I have laughed, learned and changed to the better in more ways than I could ever imagine. Thank you all!
