Money is not the root of all evils
---My prepared materials for a debate
In my opinion, after all this is an English debate, so first let’s analysis the title. “ Money is not the root of all evils”. In English, as long as “not” is used together with “ all”. “everything”. “ everybody”. “everywhere” etc. the meaning of this sentence is a partial negative, so this title means “ Not all evils originate from money". As long as we can prove it, that is enough. On second thought, sure, we admit robbing, stealing and so on---those criminal behavior is caused by lacking money. But we know money is something without subjective activity. It in itself can do nothing but human is in charge of money. If a thief stealing money says: “ When I am stealing money, don’t blame me, while the money attracts me so much. It is the money not me that you should catch”. Can we accept this irresponsible behavior? So money in itself is not the root of all evils, but humans’ ideas.
In the English-Chinese dictionary, the explanation for evil is “great wickedness or misfortune”. Virtually evil includes four types: The first type of evil is brought by extreme belief. The second type of evil results from going against rational value. The third type of evil is inordinate lust, such as religion conflicts, terrorism, race massacre. The fourth one is due to money, but we have known money in itself is not guilty, because money is controlled by human.
Suppose we blame evils on money, we should know we human beings are not only greedy for money, but for eating, drinking and sleeping. Then can we say food and sleep in themselves are the root of all evils? Who can deny female beauty is an infinite temptation to male, then can we say female is the root of all evils? Suppose in our daily life, we live for money, but we have seen most of the citizen are law-abiding and know their places. So all depends on the methods and means of human pursuing money. On the other hand, suppose we say money is the root of all the evils, then can “the root of evils” blossom kind fruit? Can we say we use “ the root of evils” to show filial piety to our parents? Can we say today the charitable institutions use “ the root of evils” to succor the impoverished? Can we say the government uses the ‘the root of evils” to construct the country? Can we say all those are evil behavior? So it is human’s behavior that decides money is good or evil, then how can we say money is the root of all evils?
In primitive society, before the money was invented, we know when people were hungry, they would kill their fellows, and when they had sex desire, they would invade the opposite sexes. We know at that time there were no money. Then can we say these evils result from money?. Can we say these evils are concerned with money? If not, how can we say money is the root of all evils. So evils had appeared before money was invented. These evils are owing to human’s desire.
All in all, human’s ideas, desire and behavior led to by these are the root of all evils, but not money~!

Waking up in the late morning and opening my drowsy eyes, I found it was brightly sunny. Since it was Sunday and I was quite free, I finished my brunch, took up my fitness clothes and went to the fitness club. Being interested in sports and loving taking exercise have been my hobbies since my childhood. Until now I still insist on doing something on body-building, which can make me a little bit stronger, keep a good figure and also decrease stress. After one-hour enthusiastic body-building exercises, I took a bath and then as usual in the beauty parlor I had another good nap with the comfort massage given by the massager on my face.
Striding out of the club, I felt especially refreshed. Since it is early spring and gets a little warmer, this time I decided to take a two-stop walk instead of taking a bus home. I sauntering in the snow-melt street, breathing the spring flavor, listening to the sparrows’ songs like anthems, glancing at the crumbling elms and others that spring, fade and cast their bloom within a simple twelve months, my state of mind abruptly became incomparable unprejudiced.
A gust of fresh breeze again blew on my face, whispering the words I have comprehended. Right, we live for our dreams. It might be good if some dreams can’t come true, for we may lose our expectation and motivation given all the dreams realized, which bring us a feeling like the ocean full of conflict and pain, or like a fire when it’s cold outside. But anyway it is a subtle, beautiful and indescribable feeling hidden in our bosom
Looking up the sky, I know all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying, the flung spray with sea-gull crying and a merry yarn from a laughing fellow rover. Since I have been bestowed so much all I need, not only from the virtual life but from the fictitious one, above all I am an easily-content person, what else do I still extravagantly hope for? Why not enjoy what we can now?

My best friend
As the saying goes “ A lonely stranger in a strange land I am cast, I miss my family all the more on every festive day”. As a person living in a different city, at the special joyous moment, I extremely miss my parents, my aunts, my uncles etc. Besides them, with the bell of a short message ringing from my cellphone, I turn to the message page, reading the sincere words, pieces of unforgettable memories well up in my mind.
It was six years ago, a new colleague was distributed to my work unit. She is a lady of fine and delicate features and a thin figure. At that time, it was still a holiday and we were assigned in the same group to do an extra job. That best portion of a man’s life, his little, nameless, unremembered acts of kindness and of love. From her, I fully experience the implied meaning in this sentence by William Wordsworth. One morning, I hurt my finger carelessly and bled. Actually it was nothing serious, but in the afternoon, she brought me some medicine cotton. I was touched by her exquisite care, which became the beginning of our friendship.
With the time passing by, the longer I get on with her, the more virtues I find in her. She is always treating others in a sincere attitude and doing everything conscientiously. As a girl just stepping out from a university, I was influenced by her every word and every action and at any time reminded to take her for an example, which rendered me to show my respect for anyone around me, and in return I got the same. I Became popular with my colleagues and leaders, which brought me undescribable happiness.
She is very aggressive as well. She often reads some books on pc, medicine and even listens to English lessons. This intangible power of hers deeply impels me. I remember the fourth year I worked, we young people were provided a chance to run for league secretary. I hadn’t thought to participate in it, but much urge from her came to me, and even many materials were collected by her to make my stumping speech more persuasive. It was just this presentation that made a little talent of my addressing witnessed, which bestowed me the practice chance of being a hostess at every grand occasional ceremony in my work unit.
It is two years since I moved to a new city. I am grateful to her for her calling on my parents at times. The best kind of friend is the kind you can sit on a porch and swing with, never say a word, and then walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you’ve ever had. So Even if long time no receive each other’s short messages or no talk on the phone, we can feel each other’s wordless concern, and all the time I can find life power from her.
In my life, I have to admit I am lucky to meet my bosom friend. She is just like a key fit my lock.. when we feel safe enough to open my lock, our truest selves step out and we can be completely and honestly who we are; we can be loved for we are and not for who we’re pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. No matter what else goes wrong around us, with her I am safe in my own paradise. We shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. She makes my life come to life. Shouldn’t I feel content to possess such a real friend in my life?

The following prose is my first writing (actually a reply to captain’s novel), and from the block, I began my writing jogging practice, which no doubt enriches my online life. Also there has once been a time when I was going to give up my practice, but again it was captain that encouraged me to keep on writing and helped me to set up the blog of my own. So my first gratitude should be shown to my dear captain~!
A reply to captain's novel----Alicelotus June, 2005
Dear Captain, thanks for leading me into your writing land! Usually I spend much of my spare time sauntering in the chatroom, so it was the first time for me to bury myself in reading articles on the bbs except your poems and comments on others' poems a month ago.
One of human's nature includes curiosity, especially to our acquaintance, which triggers me to read through your novel with rapture. On the way of my reading, I had thought Darkangel was the "stand-in" of CalmSea or other prominent celebrities of the bbs. Darkangle's finale caters to our anticipating.
Appreciate your exquisite and witty style, which all of your friends can taste. Sense your tenderness by chatting and talking with u, arrogant as your nick is. Perceive your understanding about friends from your reply to the response. Wonder at your gift for the literature and boundless vocabulary!
All the roles in your novel and friends leaving posts here are all sapiential and sagacious. I am utterly alet and proud of knowing of them.
"This is why some poets described an angel as a friend without wings ,as it is not enough to say Thank you to express friendship and affection." So needless to say Thank you, dear captain, for contributing a feast for the eyes, and all friends here for the brilliant response, just in hopes to see all of your more masterpieces! Coming here once in a while to have a taste of all your marvelous tracks is really a rewarding job!
