Angry Video Game Nerd
Thursday, 14. August 2008, 22:35:49
Many have spent countless hours on the old consoles from Nintendo, Sega and Atari, where many games have been developed. Stein-Ivar recently revealed the Angry Video Game Nerd to me, and I have since then been watching close to all of his videos. The basic story line is that we have a video game nerd whom owns or purchases close to all bad games you can think of to the earlier mentioned consoles. He then plays and reviews these games showing the world exactly how bad they are. Although he uses a foul language at times, the general idea of the "show" is ingenious. I have seldom laughed so badly of videos I've watched.
I highly recommend that you check him out at ScrewAttack: http://www.screwattack.com/avgn.

If are in to old game reviews there are a lot of them on youtube, most of them do copy the idea of James Rolfe (the AVGN) but there are some cool reviewers out there. The most know rip-off of the AVGN is the Irate Gamer (search youtube) and, yeah it's really a awful rip-off, but some of his shows are pretty entertaining.
And well. I think it's tome for another Hard News on ScrewAttack so off i go lol
What about you? Also a retro gamer? I saw that you visited my blog, and although it's n Portuguese, it's basically about Nintendo DS news and reviews of games I play and thanks for your visit
Oh, i know it comes late, but congratulations on getting accepted on School

First of all, thank you for visiting my blog. Also thank you for your kind comments, they are very appreciated.
Although I do not have as many consoles as the Angry Video Game Nerd, I am quite interested in video games, and I feel more comfortable playing the older games on consoles than the newest. I cannot ever see me purchasing a Playstation 3 or an XBOX. My first ever console was an Atari 7800, where I had a couple of games I never completed. One of them was "Dark Chambers" (a rewrite of Dandy), the other was a poor flight shooter game I've forgotten the name of, which I never got past the 3rd level of. Then I suddenly got "behind you", with not much to do before it two seconds later smashed a missile into my plane. Perhaps some of them would've been matter for the AVGN.
I then got an Atari XE Gaming System, but I never purchased any games other than the ones that came with it. The built-in Missile Command which booted up when you held in "Reset" while powering up was awesome. The Ataris were put to rest when I got a Super Nintendo later on, but for some reason it short circuited after some years, and I never bothered sending it for repair.
After the Super Nintendo, I purchased GameBoys, and I've had two normal GameBoys, on both which the screen became broken after some time, and one GameBoy Pocket, which was just awesome since it was so much clearer screen. The GameBoy Pocket still lies down in my basement, but I cannot bother to take it up as the only game I have brought with me from home is Donkey Kong II (or was it III, I cannot recall, it's boring when you've cleared it 10 times, and the music gives me a headache).
About two months ago I got a Nintendo DS with Final Fantasy VI Advance, which was just awesome, and I added New Super Mario Bros to my collection later this summer. I have not been trying many DS games, but I will try out the Zelda game later on, and probably try some other games when I can afford them.
So perhaps this was a wall of text, but I hope your question was answered, Manny. Note that I never played Grim Fandango, however.

Woow, an Atari 7800! That's some old stuff
I got a Gameboy (of the first series, the gray one) in early times, one of my uncles bought me one in the U.S. with a bunch of games, in Portugal there were none, so I was a lucky kid
After my Zx Spectrum +2A, which i still own, works fine and have a bunch of tapes full with games, I got a NES for Christmas and man has that a joy
Then i let the time pass and when it was time to get a new system a made a mistake and bought a Saturn..I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but my brother was like "Dude, Mario is so slow, Sega is making CD games, Nintendo will perish". I was like "Meh, it's not the end of the world.", and he is my little brother so I let him pick the system. I think it was a mistake because the N64 was such a better console and the Playstation had a much bigger library of games...Oh well, I was introduced to Lara Croft and Resident Evil, have been a fan of the series ever since.
One thing that was awesome back then, was that my friends got the others systems, the SNES and Genesis, so when the Saturn, PSX and N64 came out, they gave their systems and games to me so i could play
This Christmas i got a DS with The Legend Of Zelda Phantom Hourglass and New Super Mario Bros., it's awesome! The DS as such an amazing library of games with a lot of new interactive gameplay and the remakes there are going to launch (like Chrono Trigger!!!!!) makes it a excellent console for new gamers and retro ones. I was hoping that Megaman 9 would come to the DS but i guess not :\ If are in to simple and addictive games i would recommend you check out Soul Bubbles, it looks like a kids game but believe me it's awesome (Nintendo Power gave it 93% and you know how hard it is for the magazine to say "this is a good game"
I'm not much in to Pc Gaming (these later games requires a super pc that I can't afford
Well..I think i over-writed

I'll start with the end: I have played Syberia II, and I totally loved it. I raged in fury when a, now discontinued, video game review show on the Norwegian television gave it 2 out of 10 since it was "too much walking, talking and clicking". I was like: "HELLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO -- That's what a point to click game is all about!", so I never watched it again. Ever.
I have been playing a lot of PC games since we got our first computer back in 1995. One of my favourite series has been Comman & Conquer, and it is approximately at the same line as Heroes of Might and Magic, although the gameplay radically dropped with the release of the fourth game in the series. The fifth was a breath of fresh air, but it was not particularily good either.
In the newer days I have been playing mostly MMOs, and one in particular: World of Warcraft. I tried out Lord of the Rings Online too (twice, actually), but it became very repetive and appart from the graphics and the kinship we had, there were not much else that could keep me there. I am currently looking forward to playing Aion when it comes in 2009.
To my DS I am planning on buying Phantom Hourglass, and possibly more Final Fantasy games (the Final Fantasy <insert number> Advance series). I have not made any other plans, so it will be interesting to see what I end up with. :-)

LOLOLOLOL "too much walking, talking and clicking" on a point and click? Who would have guessed?? LOL I often do reviews on DS games on my blog, but I'm not in to Sports and Strategy games so it's obvious I won't review then lol I think you made a wise decision not to view that show ever again
I know the two PC games you mentioned, but like I said I'm not in to strategy games ^_^' neither of MMOs, when I was younger I played Quake online and now with the DS i often compete with other users, it's great fun. With MMO I just think to myself "well, there will always be someone that has more free time than me, as such his character will be the best" so I don't find the appeal of such games. Of course I'm missing out the best part: form a team, meet people from other countries, be a fundamental part of a team work, all that is awesome but I'm currently working on my Bachelor (the one before Master) thesis and had the luck of being part of an important collaboration between my university and CERN, on the ATLAS experiment so my "game-time" it's aleatory, I don't think it's fair to be part of a team when I can't guarantee my best effort (like almost everything that i get in to my life, i won't do it unless i have the feeling that i can put all my best on it).
The Final Fantasy remakes for the DS look awesome, and if you are (like myself) a RPG fan, you can't go wrong with the DS: Summon Night: Twin Age, Dragon Quest IV, The World Ends With You (awesome!!!), Sonic Chronicles (yet to come), and so many others.
EDIT - hey again,i just read your About section, and just wanted to say that my course it's Physics Enginner, and I'm sorry to know that you and Physics didn't get along
Hope you are having a good vacation at Ørnes

I have added you as a friend, but unfortunately I won't be able to read much of your reviews, since I don't understand much of Portuguese. Actually, I don't understand anything at all.
