Thoughts about redesigning the blog

,

I originally said that this design was only for December, but since I do not have another one completed at this time, I fear that I'll have to wait until after January 5th to redesign it.

This brings me to several points about how the new design will be, and hopefully I'll get some reactions to this and thoughts before I, eventually, implement them.

- I do not want to have the sidebar floating to the right. It breaks the design in Internet Explorer (for a change...) and it looks generally bad in resolutions with less than 1024 pixels in width.

- White. That's the background colour of the blog's content. The text colour will be black.

- I aim for about 800-900 pixels in width. Perhaps even 1000 pixels, with about 200 pixels for the sidebar.

- The form of the site will be much like http://www.ipwn.se (I really like that general layout)

- The font size will probably be 1 to 2 pixels larger (up from 11px), while the font family probably will continue to be Tahoma, Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif.

- The header will perhaps be... spaced out? I am not certain, I haven't given it much thought. Hopefully it'll be no taller than 200 pixels.

- Transparency? I don't think so. Perhaps.

- Much more structured CSS! All elements first, identifiers (#) second and lastly all the classes, not like the mess I am currently having.

- Better tags? Sure, I'll come up with something.

Any other suggestions? :-)

I like the considerations you've made so far. As for the transparency: Those blogs I have seen it on has been really slow to do the scrolling down on.

The transparency can be a fine thing (see the menu at the top on my site, or on the fields here), but it can also be very, very, very slow. I tried to make a transparent design over at ipwn.se earlier on, but even on my stationary computer, which is more than capable of running games and 3d applications fluently, the site was incredibly slow.

I might have transparencies on small elements of the site (such as text fields, buttons or the top menu), but I don't think it'll be on more than that. I actually have transparency on the sidebar on this design, but it's not particularly noticable.

1000px width is good, after all most people have higher reso. monitors these days....

Yeah, I just want it to look good on my MSI Wind which has a 1024x600 resolution.

Did you align the blog on the right? Or do you set too large margin for the left? Umm... the scroll bar on the bottom part appear on my browser. But its not a problem. This layout is cool!

It's justified to the center, but the sidebar to the right is too wide for low resolutions. :/

hmm... I see.

I used 1024x768 for PC it didn't look so nice yesterday.
But its perfect on my Compaq with 1280x800 resolution ^^

Yeah, it wasn't designed for such small screens. Without the sidebar it works wonders though.
