Designs and such.

,

I've redesigned my blog. Somewhat twice. Depending on when you are reading this, you will be seeing three different designs. One design runs from 0400 to 1200. Another runs from 1200 to 2000. The last runs from 2000 to 0400. All in CET. Good luck spotting all.

Oh, and by the way - more will come. Probably, the "morning" design will be totally revamped. But not tonight.

EDIT: I've added more images with different spans
1. From 2000 to 0400
2. From 0400 to 0800
3. From 0800 to 1200
4. From 1200 to 1600
5. From 1600 to 2000

On our way...TV series and more

Ooo! Dynamic day and night themes. :D

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 19:17

I was considering doing dynamic all-around-themes. For instance for weather, and hook it up to weather services. Something like Google's weather changing themes. It's be awesome with a rainy theme, a sunny theme, a stormy theme, etc :D

Kitty 24. May 2009, 19:17

I think I'm looking at the first one, and it looks cool.

But isn't the blog title supposed to be on the banner? I see it way out to the left of the banner right now. :left:

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 19:17

Weird, I see it alright. I'll look into it.

Kitty 24. May 2009, 19:18

Just say if you want a screenshot.

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 19:18

Better now?

Kitty 24. May 2009, 19:18

Yep - now it's right where it should be. Damn you're fast! :eyes:

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 19:19

Oh, and you are definitively looking at the first one now. The "day" one (from 12 to 20) is the one I had before, and the last is a placeholder for the third. Tune in tomorrow morning to see it. :D

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 19:20

Amnith, faster than his own shadow! No, wait, that was Lucky Luke. D:

Andrew Nguyen 24. May 2009, 19:22

Hmm...I got a leafy treey Download Opera banner with the stormy banner. Now I get a stormy banner with the stormy download opera banner. :sherlock: Suspicious.

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 19:26

Yeah, I begone'd it. p:

Samuel 24. May 2009, 19:31

Wow!!

Very interesting!! I like it!!

Right now I see it dark.

I've also thinking to change my blog's desgin (which, I don't have). But I'm waiting till Monday, for the banana release. Meanwhile, I've been studying CSS.

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 19:34

Thanks

From what I understood, there were only minor changes in banana for the HTML structure, so most designs should work.

Kitty 24. May 2009, 19:42

I'm glad I didn't miss the first two!
I'll stay tuned and stop by tomorrow morning as well.

Aleksander Aas 24. May 2009, 19:45

Nice one

svinepelz 24. May 2009, 20:27

Looking good

Samuel 24. May 2009, 20:45

The other day I succesfully removed side publicity from hi5. I had to resize a div pushing the publicity div a lot to the bottom. Then, it can't be seen!

But I couldn't hide the div where the publicity was (which was my first try), because it has no id or class. Is there a way to do it? (
like #divid {display:none;}
)

Robert Jacobsen 24. May 2009, 21:49

Well, display: none; is the safe bet. However, you can enforce it by putting !important behind, like display: none !important; - That is, if you know its class or id. If it's part of a parent id, call it #parent, and it's the only one of its kind, say for instance it's a span, then you can do something like:

#parent span { display: none !important; }

I just put the !important there for showing it in use. It may be possible not to enforce it like that. :-)

Espen André Øverdahl 24. May 2009, 22:40

Very cool. Good job.

Samuel 25. May 2009, 03:08

Thanks! I,ll try it!

Now I see a sunrise!

Kitty 25. May 2009, 05:52

Ooh... the second one is even nicer!

mistressEVIL 25. May 2009, 10:18

Great, i hope i ever get to see 4-8am one

p:

Kitty 25. May 2009, 10:22

My vote goes for design # 2

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 10:42

The plan is to have rotating designs. Dark designs by night and light designs during the day.

Kitty 25. May 2009, 11:22

Ah, I hadn't caught that, that's a great idea!

Andrew Nguyen 25. May 2009, 14:18

I think you have this to automatically change by @import? Or do you manually do it?

Due to the new banana update, the comment box is kind-of messed up. :frown:

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 16:43

Yeah, I haven't gotten to change all layouts for the banana update. :)

And you're right. I'm writing an article about how it's done, so you'll see then :)

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 21:15

Done some bugfixes to the night design. What do you think?

Andrew Nguyen 25. May 2009, 21:26

The comment box looks a bit better, though, my avatar sticks into the text entry area a bit.

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 21:31

Should be fixed now. I forgot that mine was about 15 px smaller than the rest :D

Samuel 25. May 2009, 21:35

Right now I see the dark clouds design (I think its the night).

I use the UserJS for Heavy-dutty posters. And it doesn't fit well.

Andrew Nguyen 25. May 2009, 21:37

 Looks great!

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 21:38

I can't really do much about the heavy duty UserJS script, since I don't use it anymore. Could you post a screenshot?

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 21:49

The light designs are suffering from the same problems the dark ones had, but I'll look into that tomorrow.

Samuel 25. May 2009, 21:56

Sure! here is it:

Maybe the problem is that now the Avatar is at the left. It wasn't there before.

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 22:00

Does it work with other comments?

Samuel 25. May 2009, 22:28

Yes. This is from the most recent post in the community:

The other one is from Aleksander, who has a small layout. There also goes out. Then, the problem is the UserJS.

Robert Jacobsen 25. May 2009, 23:35

Yeah, I see it now on my Mac. There's not much I can do about it, except making a larger design, which is out of the question.

Samuel 26. May 2009, 00:24

No. Your design is very good.

I'll look how to make the UserJS making it adjust itself to small widths.

Roshan 26. May 2009, 19:13

Wow

Carol 27. May 2009, 17:45

Love the idea...My google mail theme is like that...but never thought about actually making a blog design that changes with the seasons, weather, time of day etc. How about weather AND time of day? :sherlock:

Robert Jacobsen 28. May 2009, 21:13

It is possible, but it requires a lot of designs in the pool. An idea my girlfriend came with was that I could take several pictures of the same spot, for instance outside our new house (when we move in) at various times of the day and various weathers. An interesting thought, but it requires much time and planning.

☜☞Sarah☜☞ 29. May 2009, 16:04

yes, but possible after many hours of hard work...would be cool and attract a lot of attention.

Charles Schloss 31. May 2009, 05:30

Looking at this at a different time of day
