Actually it is a very old trick. I had the same "turbo" stuff back when I was using a dial up connection. It was a little utility from my ISP that connected to the ISP proxy. Even Google had a similar tool some time ago, now it seems discontinued. On a side note, using my ADSL connection I get some "saved" data but page loading is generally slower.

It is faster to a certain point, since the Web pages have to be rendered at the server in Oslo and then transmitted to your computer. If you have a fast Internet connection and the Website is generally much closer to you than to the server in Oslo, you shouldn't experience any speed boost due to the laws of physics, more or less. It takes longer time for the data to travel to Oslo, get rendered and then sent back to you than it takes to send it directly to your computer for instantaneous rendering.

However, if the page contains many images and is generally heavy to load, you'll save tons of time loading it on lesser connections, such as my 0.8 Mbit wireless connection which has a hard time doing anything. It is 0.8 Mbit, but it certainly doesn't feel that way. The page loaded in about 30 seconds there while it loads in about 45 seconds on my 10 Mbit connection without turbo. It certainly works.

45 secs for a single page? Well, the author must be a genius.

It was a page I had sat up that just included all the pictures in the directory: http://img.ipwn.se/aion/

I should add more pictures to that page and see what we can get it up to! p:
