Wireless Broadband, Redux

, , , ,

I've just taken delivery of my new Exetel HSPA SIM card. This goes into my laptop and its internal wireless broadband modem.

Back in August I looked at my wireless broadband options, and found them wanting. I've gone with Exetel because they offer a very low monthly fee ($5), plus the data rates are very cheap at 1.5c/MB, going up to 2.5c/MB when 1GB of traffic (up or down) is exceeded.

This is perfect for the use I want it for - the rare occasion I'm away from the home/office and the cheap ADSL Internet. It also wouldn't be too bad for a light Internet user in general. For years now I've been paying $60/month for my Internet. It's not the cheapest, but the service is good, and there have been regular speed and traffic quota increases at no extra cost over the years. $60/month on the Exetel plan would buy nearly 3GB of traffic. Not counting other people, or the servers I run 24/7, my personal traffic probably isn't much more than that.

Having a separate SIM card is also a lot more convenient than swapping cards with my mobile.

Internet everywhere!
