Gospel Nights

, ,

On account of my wife being a semi-professional gospel singer I go to a few gospel performances.

I sometimes bring my camera.

Same guy as Photo 19 in the album. A young man who has a marvellous voice, Jeff Buckley-ish. I found him standing like that just before the show. Even though this is a modern gospel choir, some of the choir members are true believers after all.

She's in quite a few of them. wink The choir leader calls her 'our personal Gospel Mama', because her voice has the depth and power of a true gospel diva, which is rare amongst whiteys.

For the record: AC is my wife's nick. Her full name's Ann-Charlotte.

The first photo is very arty. I don't usually like what I'd consider "arty" photos, but this one's awesome.

"rare amongst whiteys" lol true enough. In fact, looking through the entire album it goes against a lot I've seen of "typical" Gospel choirs. It's nice to know things can break away from stereotype.

That's basically what's going on in this church on almost every level. Trying to rethink the concept of what a church is about. The gospel activities is only a part of it. I've gotten to know the people of this church, and even though I am currently outside any form of church or religion, I feel welcome among them. Nice people.

That's a kind of church I can support. One that makes those of us without any religion to speak of feel as though we belong among them. You're a very lucky guy.

I don't think of it as a church when I am there. I am so used to the traditional Lutheran guilt-and-sin church, that it is refreshing to meet a church where it is about joy and actually showing charity for eachother, not just for the starving people of Africa or something like that but actually caring for eachother, person to person. That is not something you do in the conventional Lutheran state church of Denmark where it is all about guilt and sin and remorse and death. I am so full of that and have been since I was a young kid.

Oh man that first image is cool. Looks kinda like a cat in a wig.

You really can't tell what it is the guy's doing, can you? If you look at it outside context he might be in the process of taking a piss, or checking his phone for texts or perhaps he is sad or annoyed because his dad just gave him his true opinion on what he feels about his only son being a choir boy.

Photographs may not lie, but most of them are open for interpretations.
