Daily Poem: If Only I Had An Ascot Tie

If only I had an ascot tie
And a pair of two tone shoes
Cruising down Main Street in my beige Corvette
Looking like Elton John, feeling like Charles Bronson
In my light blue three-piece suit

But here I am
On the bus
With a slight diarrhea

Having a 'dire rear' in public is bad for one's self image. awww .

The above is based loosely on a true story. Ever so loosely, as suggested...

yuck

I've long come to accept that poetry is not widely appreciated or liked by many in OC, but seeing what you've written here it gives me hope that I may be wrong. Well done Martin.. and witty too! smile

I couldn't care less whether poetry is appreciated or not, in OC or in other places. If something of the sort comes to me and I find it amusing I will publish it. I regard this site as a noticeboard/scrapbook where I just put whatever I feel like. Whether people will check it out or not - well, that's up to them.

It's much like writing stuff for a magazine or a newspaper. You write it and the editors put it somewhere in the paper, and most of the time you don't know if anybody at all reads it, so... I'm sort of accustomed to that. Except I don't get payed for this. wink

Nice when people comment, though. So, thanks.

We differ in the caring aspect, apropos poetry, but that simply shows we (all) have our own opinions. Thanks for sharing yours here.

As I implied previously, nice post! smile

I think I know how you feel. I know some fellow writers who care very much for poetry as both a mode of expression and a cultural tradition. They carry poetry in their hearts and souls and have very strong emotions toward this particular form.

I'm afraid, it doesn't go that deep with me, if you know what I mean.

It's just, that sometimes the words come to me in a poetic form, mostly in verses and sometimes even accompanied by a tune. And sometimes these verses/songs are so amusing to me, that I find them worth communicating.

Like the above.

Thank you very much.

I do not recall the situation in question, since they are legio, but I do recall having suffered from different forms of bowel management issues over the years. I fell down a hole in a roof once in the quest of feces execution. I was alone on the roof of a building when it came over me, and I sat down right there, and my movements must have trickered the wood work of the roof. I fell right through with my trousers round my knees.

It was in no way a delicate experience. More Charlie Bronson than Elton John.

...

Now, that one did not come out right. Elton in a shitstorm. Whatever.

I wouldn't own an Ascot tie,
for Ascot's not my scene,
and I could never mingle there
or hobnob with The Queen.

I wouldn't own an Ascot tie
or anything that says,
"The Upper Class Is Just My Thing!
God Bless 'Em All Their Days"

I wouldn't wear an Ascot tie
to be like Elton John.
I'd rather be like Steve McQueen
- now there's a star who shone!

And when I drove my Mustang GT,
down San Francisco way,
I'd think I was Steve in "Bullitt"
and that'd make my day!
