sing
Sweet dreams are made of this
Who am I to disagree?
Travel the world and the seven seas
Everybody's looking for something....

The only other cover I know of this is M. Manson's, which I like. I like this one too, perhaps better.

I still remember how blown away everybody was by that video when it first came out. It was like, "What's with the weird chic with the riding crop?"

Incidently I read once the the Eurythmics had this basic 8-track recording studio when they made that, and that afterward everybody was screaming to be recorded there. Simple and uncomplicated is best sometimes I guess.

8 tracks are exactly what I have too. Unless I make a mixdown and turn the entire arrangement into one track, then I can add more, but it gets complicated. I like the rock sound, and I'd only add some deep compression bass-drum or handclaps from the electronica soundpool.

Amazing how technology has progressed and in a sense become more democratic. Of course, you still have to know how to use it. You use yours with great skill I think.

Thank you. I do have musical skills. I've played the drums since I was seven, and also took advanced music classes in secondary school. However, I don't really play any instruments besides the drums and some bass. With this piece of software - and a good head set - I can actually do some composing. And it's fun.

This is nice-I listened to it twice writing this comment-make more. Have you thought of doing little postrock compositions? (If you're not familiar with it, here's the wikipedia opener: ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Postrock ) They're sorta like a (typically instrumental only) metal/rock/classical hybrid...

"Post-rock is a genre of alternative rock characterized by the use of musical instruments commonly associated with rock music, but using rhythms, harmonies, melodies, timbre, and chord progressions that are not usually found in rock tradition. It is the use of 'rock instrumentation' for non-rock purposes. Practitioners of the genre's style typically produce instrumental music.[1][2][3]"

Martin, your getting really good with that little piece of software man.
How about a surrealistic rock opera video with original music? up

Martin K™Aqualion Tuesday, June 30, 2009 6:56:10 AM

Hi Akamu!

I do prefer playing music on real instruments with a band of fellow musicians, and that is what I do. However, composing postrock (and you might be absolutely right about that genre up) is fun to me. It's a playground, but nothing more. The real hard work of rock'n'roll takes places while practicing in the rehearsal room or performing on stage. This is also fun, of course - why bother if it wasn't? - but it demands more than just the ambition to have fun. Messing around with soundbits is just fun.

If you know what I mean.

Adam ShurteAkamu Tuesday, June 30, 2009 10:15:56 AM

Yep. I should be lurking about here more, by the way, i've got headphones and can listen to the stuff you post now...

Try and pick up some of the good postrock bands if you can however you usually get music; Russian Circles is probably my favorite group, but they haven't made a lot thus far. I do think that you can do postrock with a band easily and make it better; you'd probably isolate your lead singer if you did so and he/she doesn't play an instrument, though.

Or you can do the just for the fun variety of it too. I might demand MP3s if you keep it up, however. I do understand the just for fun variety of artmaking, though...

Martin K™Aqualion Tuesday, June 30, 2009 4:08:59 PM

Thanks for the input, Phantom! My problem is, that I don't sing either. I know I might be able to just recite something and run it through some filters and compressors and make it sound like vocals, but another problem is I don't have a proper microphone. In other words: a rock opera might require the participation of other people, and you know how it is: nobody wants to do anything without the chance of getting either famous or rich, and I have absolutely no ambitions in that direction. But hey... If you are daring me, then it's on, dude... One rock opera comin' up!

wink

Well, I hear the ABBA girls are available these days, and I don't think they're really in need of much money! bigsmile
