Larus marinus in Portimão fishing harbour

On May 24th, 2008, I and Luís Campina found a very large Great Black-backed Gull (Larus marinus) in Portimão fishing harbour (Lagoa municipality, Algarve). The 2nd winter bird was notoriously larger than the largest Yellow-leggeg Gulls (Larus michahellis michahellis) and almost twice as large than the smallest Lesser Black-backed Gull (Larus fuscus graellsii/intermedius). The size point out to a young male in the extreme upper size limit.
