Yep. Great day.
Just changed the pitiful Windows vista partition on my pc for the best and only Mandriva.
Yeah! Rules.
Well, now I'm all unix + linux.

Here you have some screen shots from Mandriva Linux.yikes

Like i understand, you are linux user. With more ech day, windows is starting to piss me off bomb
So i need alternative to windows. The only reasons, i use it, is because of the games and maybe because i know how to use it.
Whith each day, i'm thinking more and more to switch over to linux.
Yesterday i found and downloaded Linux Mint, and in virtual PC it looked nice. So now i wan't to ask you, what will i loose (things, that will not work anymore) when i switch to linux. In things like linux, i'm complete noob ...

You lose nothing. The only thing is that you need to know how to use it.
In game stuff, there's no problem. The problem comes when you need to use cracks, wich don't work 'cuz of different directories.
For games there's special software called Cedega.
If you want, I can give it to you so you can enjoy your gamez.
Hails.

For now, i think i will do some more tests, before i will give up windows for good. The reason, why i'm curious, is because there is always some problems with it, problem here, problem there, blue screen of death and so on. I haveto format my computer almost every month, because some program or what ever messes up my comp. Last time, i did clean install, was last weekend and now my mediaplayer crashes and freezes everything.
Windows really suck down
So now i'm looking alternative OS. Seems, like Linux is the way to go... bigsmile

Of course.
My suggestions:
-Ubuntu
-Mandriva
-Free BSD (It's unix... but it works good even with 128 MB RAM)
-Kubuntu

These are the best OS's that I've tried.
Really good and no errors at all. No thing crashes, nothing slows you down.
Practically perfect.

when i was chearcing new OS, i found out a intresting project: ReactOs
It is ment to be resplacment for windows. Overall it's like windows copy, but totally free, everything is built under free open source. Too bad it's still under alfa stage sad

Just wondering, what do you think

http://www.reactos.org

About ubuntu: i have heard, it's takes lot of resurses. My friend was here some hours ago, ad told me, that ubuntu crashes all the time, and performance is really slow, even with new computers. Where i live, we got new computers with ubuntu on them (public internet place)

I have never heard anything about others you listed ...

Saw the page... Naaa... I don't like the idea of making another windows...
Of course it's gonna be better than xp, maybe better even than vista, but I don't like the structure of the Win system.
The + in this thing is that it's open source, I like that.
But if it's not a big company making it, I think it's gonna crash even more than windows.
About Free BSD:
It's really GOOD. Works fast, a lot of functions and hell'a lot of more things. If your computer's slow (256 -) then I recommend u that one

Obi1 Tuesday, September 18, 2007 7:48:34 PM

Actually, my computer isn't slow smile
My PC:

Celeron 3,2 GHz
1GB DDR2
Ati X1300 PRO
3 HDD total 500 GB
+the usual stuff (flat monitor, dvdrw and so on)

Also, i wanted to ask, do you use some kind of antivirus/firewall sofware, or isn't it nessesary when using linux. I know, that most of the viruses are made for windows, but still ...

MarkoArcanis Tuesday, September 18, 2007 7:56:49 PM

Well, I have heard of some viruses and errors on Linux, but I've never had 1, this is, that I've used Linux 4 more than 2 years now and never had a problem, like crashes, infiltrations, hacks and other stuff.
But I think there must be a firewall around the development, if you don't trust the networks and stuff.

Lot of nasty stuff is moving thru internet those days, just wanto keep it away from my computer bigsmile

Anyway, thanks for advice, helped me lot up
