E-Patriotism

As I am writing this blog sitting somewhere in a remote corner of not so rich a country, I am fully aware that you will be able to read it once I post it, even if you are from the other side of the world or else my purpose of writing it will be defeated.
I respect my country and its people, I greatly appreciate its rich heritage and culture. Everything about my country is simply great. I love them. But so do you. So are everything about your country dear to you. This puts both of us in the same category. We both are patriots.
As long as my knowledge about you is restricted to this much you are a perfect example of a perfect human being. The trouble starts once we come to know that the other is from across the border. Then we are alien to each other. The old wisdom would have us to enquire every details about you yet categorise you as suspicious or doubtful.
It is here that a lot of irrelevent things like religion enter the field. Selfish trouble mongers have used this weakness to their benefit, all in the disguise of a patriot. What has patriotism to do with religion? But in the past 50 years of terrorism we are made to understand that it matters.
Similarly it will be considered unpatriotic if you challange the social inequility that may be prevailing in your country. In many countries women are denied equale rights. Nobody dares to protest. After all your integrety is at stake if you chose to speak. You have to be a patriot to tolarate this.LOL.
Take for example corruption ruining your motherland. That it is there is proof that you are either blind or a patriot. If you cannot find the connection, write to me, I will be glad to explain.
In the days of social networking you are as good as my next door neighbour even though you may be thousands of miles away from me. I appreciate when you follow me on Twitter or comment on my tweets. I enjoy it. If you are my friend on Facebook I never bother about your profile entries. They may not be correct. We have been able to develope a friendship. Why can't we keep it up when we see each other in flesh and blood, face to face? Why can't we invoke patriotism in the context of developement, equale opportunity and human rights and keep the things like religion purely personal? It is time to redefine patriotism in a universal setting and to rediscover human bond.
