Asia Society is delighted to present Grammy Award winning musician Vishwa Mohan Bhatt in a solo performance at one of Washington's newest and finest performance venues, the Jack Morton Auditorium at George Washington University. In this intimate setting, you will enjoy with compelling immediacy the sheer virtuosity and immense repertoire of melodies of Vishwa Mohan Bhatt's Mohan Veena. He has mesmerized the world with his pristine, pure, delicate yet fiery music. The creator of the Mohan Veena, a modified guitar, Bhatt is one of the most expressive, versatile and greatest slide players in the world. He received the Grammy Award in 1994 with Ry Cooder for their World Music album, A Meeting by the Rive and the Padmashree, one of India's highest civilian awards, in 2002.
Samir Chatterjee is a virtuoso Tabla player who has accompanied many of India's greatest musicians including Ravi Shankar, Amjad Ali Khan and Vilayat Khan. He has also become a catalyst in the fusion of Indian and western music performing with jazz, classical and avant-garde musicians and ensembles. Samir is the Founder-Director of Chhandayan, an Indian music organization, and has taught tabla for over 30 years.
