review, android, recommendations, games
Since Google+ does not have a friendly interface I will publish links to my Android gaming recommendations here. These are the games I personally found interesting. I played them all and enjoyed every minute. There will be no posts about bad games. Enjoy!

There's a
nice story on
Phandroid about Spacetime Studios — creators of
Pocket Legends mobile MMORPG. Their story is that they make more money from Android users then from iOS users even though there is still no in-app payments in Android world. This is rather uncommon as of today. But I think I know the answer - Android lacks high quality games. So such titles (and yes, Pocket Legends are awesome!) are rare. So they do generate a lot of money - people are hungry for hi-end entertainment here.
Thinking about making Android app? Make it REALLY hi-end! Everyone will love it!

software, piracy, games, drm
...
Once upon a time DRM (digital rights management) was called copy protection. But DRM "word" is a much fancier, right? But let's move to the topic (:
Ubisoft added a
new type of DRM to its games recently. They thought that if players would require constant Internet access then their protection will be unbreakable. Cracking scene loled a lot and cracked both Ubisoft's games with new DRM
in one day. The problem? Well... Currently
authentication servers are down and legal users are screwed. Yet pirates are enjoying playing games without ANY problems. Oh, irony!
This fact just proves my point of view that DRM is only limiting legal users. It does NOT protect from piracy. It has NEGATIVE impact on LEGAL users. And it forces users to pirate. And of course DRM protected content costs additional money - protection is not cheap. Why not lower prices and strip off any protection? Pros are obvious and clearly visible:
- More people will be able to buy your content for lesser price and your revenue from one copy will be exactly the same.
- Software will be much more stable because one layer of issues is stripped off.
- Your users will be happy without all the glitches caused by DRM.
- You will save money on paying to DRM developers.

gta, pc, Realtime Worlds, games
...
Wow, had too much work lately, sorry for no updates. So let's continue!
The very first bit today is about upcoming MMO game called
APB: All Points Bulletin. It is sand-boxed MMO set in modern time with look'n'feel of GTA. Player chooses which side he wants to join - Enforcement (police) or Criminals - and then dives into big city, steals cars, kills innocent and so on. I've been dreaming for such game for quite a long time!
So the news is that APB team, a company named
Realtime Worlds, recently opened
beta applications section, so everyone may fill application and hope to become a beta-tester. Basically that means that game will be released as expected in early 2010. Great!
I also recommend you to visit APB site and check-out media stuff like trailer and video-podcasts with gameplay videos and much more. IMHO this will be the best MMO in the world!
P.S. All Points Bulletin will be released for both PC and XBox 360.

Burnout Paradise is a great multiplayer game available both for PCs and game consoles linking these two worlds together. One of the issues in modern crossplatform game development is hardware platform differences resulting in uneven performance.
Eurogamer has an article on
how did the guys from Criterion Games solve this issue.

Steam is implementing a
new anti-piracy solution that will not rely on any kind of DRM. Instead every player will get a unique game executable, locked to their account. So you will be able to buy a game and run it on any PC. Sounds cool, but will that stop piracy? And what's inside? Any "surprises"?

Guys at
IGN created a list of
ten games which were not released, but many gamers would really like to see them. The list includes such titles as
Trinity from
id software,
Starcraft: Ghost from
Blizzard and real
Fallout 3 codenamed
Van Buren by
Black Isle Studios not Bethesda...

...

Rockstar Games has announced
Max Payne 3 is in the works (or
here and all over the web). It may be released next winter and will be available for PCs, XBox 360 and PS3. The game will get new story in near future (against MP2 plot), Max will be older, falling down in his life and more cynical then ever.
And the only thing bothers me is a poster, which you can see on the right. WTF? Guy there definitely does not look like Max Payne! Guys! We want original Max! We are already shocked with Mark Wahlberg from Max Payne movie, stop it!

Well, many of you should already know that
Quake Live is now in open beta stage, so anyone can freely register. I also would like to note that their web site is now much faster with less JavaScript errors. Plugin for
Opera browser is not coming anytime soon.
But more interesting for me is an interview with id's
John Carmack and Marty Stratton in which they talk about what they did and still are doing regarding Quake Live. And yes, they don't like web coding (:
