, , , ...

My iceflow extension is updated with Chrome and Firefox support. Hurray! Some bugs were also fixed and some options were added. Safari support is coming soon, after that final version will be released. Final version of iceflow will be published to all extension repositories with auto-update feature.

Visit my web site for download links.

iceflow 1.0 beta 3 is publicly available!

, , , ...

iceflow is my new extension for Opera browser. It turns all links on web pages to video services like YouTube into a player opened in place. More info in Russian is available on Habrahabr.

Currently supported services: YouTube, Vimeo, mpora, PinkBike.

Download iceflow 1.0b3.

P.S. iceflow also removes "Click to use" issue with Flash videos and games. If you don't like iceflow player, but want to solve Flash issue - just disable iceflow player in extension settings.

Adobe Wallaby is now available in Labs

, , , ...

Adobe Wallaby was presented on Adobe MAX conference last year and now it goes into public Labs release. Wallaby is a Flash to HTML5 converter so now developers have a tool to reuse their Flash code on devices without plugin. Like... um... iPhone (:

Read more about release on Adobe Blogs and remember - Labs releases are like betas, but they are targeted at developers-alike, not end-users.

Hardware accelerated Opera

, , , ...

At last! Opera guys are bringing us some HW-accelerated goods! I was waiting for this for almost three years (:

I will test it today in the evening at home, because I have crappy video card at work. The only thing I can say now is that it is VERY SLOW on my NV GF 8400GS. But hey, EVERYTHING 3D IS SLOW HERE (:

my.opera.com on Android

, , , ...

Mobile version of opera community is loaded by default. This version is great for small screen devices like my previous Sony Ericsson k530i. But it looks very ugly on my current high DPI Acer Liquid.

So I've switched to desktop version - that's better! It looks just like on a PC and text part fits 800 pixel width perfectly.

I've noticed that mobile Webkit does not support any of mobile CSS features, does not respond to @media handheld and always returns 96dpi. This is a broken behavior definitely. I understand that it tries to show me full web, but...

I will write big post about current state of mobile web from developer's point of view later - it's hard to type a lot of text on screen (:

How IE8 Determines Document Mode

, , , ...

IE developers published algorithm how they detect rendering mode for each page and what happens after. A must-read for every web-developer! This will help everyone to choose rendering mode to suit their needs. You have choice to be fully W3C compliant, IE and W3C compatible as much as possible, IE7 compatible or Quirks mode compatible. The choice is yours!

Web page blur with CSS and a bit of JavaScript

, , , ...

Actually, you can't really blur web page in any browser except for IE6/7 - there is NO way to blur web page with CSS/JavaScript and even Canvas tag will NOT help. Too bad...

But I've found a workaround which will do the job just fine for some cases. My method adds CSS3 text-shadow property to blurred elements with the same color as text color is. Then text color "blurred" a bit to the background color. The last thing left is to find all IMG tags, replace them with Canvas, draw and blur these images inside canvas. I did not do the last step because there are plenty of code for that in Google.

Oh, and the result! Here it is (: Visit the page with Opera/Chrome/FF/Safari, click on the text, enjoy the sources!

Adobe BrowserLab preview is available

, , , ...

Adobe always cared about web-developers and purchase of Macromedia just strengthened that care. So it is quite natural that they created browser preview service. Actually there are many such services over the net, but some of them are buggy, some are slow and so on. Maybe one day Adobe BrowserLab will change that situation. But right now this service is in preview mode available only to registered Adobe members (free registration is here), quite slow and yes, sometimes buggy (: But what do you want from preview? At least it works!

Main difference from other services is that BrowserLab is a Flash application which allows to compare site screenshots from different browsers easily and everything is tightly integrated (well, at least should be in final version). Currently it lacks some functionality, especially browser set is very limited, but let's hope release will be polished and fully functional.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 Beta 2 for web developers

, , ,

Yes, I really love Opera, but I also need to check my XHTML in other browsers. As many may know, it is possible to use only one installation of Internet Explorer on a PC without hacking. So testing your code in different versions is kinda hard. But guys at Microsoft do understand that, so they make Virtual PC images with different IEs inside. So if you need to check your code in IE8 easily now you know what to do. There are also IE6 and IE7 images.

New HTML tag - video!

, , ,

Today I was chatting with Opera Software staff about new HTML tag video. That was a very nice conversation with a lot of useful information. I proposed a way to embed controls for video playback and some useful attributes for video itself. There is already experimental build of Opera Browser with video-support, so I'm looking forward to see acceptance of this new tag by web developer community.
