About Me and This Blog

I have never owned a Diary, so this will be a somewhat new experience for me. Not that I intend to be that deep and personal in this blog, but anyway...

This blog does not have a Higher Purpose (tm), that means I will not focus on a single topic, be it a specific software developement, politics, sports or dirty pictures . All of these topics will probably come up however since I am a Fairly Good Ranter (tm) (I got nothing on Foamy, but who does?).
I am not a total geek; not in the movie way, anyway. I have a life, I am married to a wonderful woman, but I do enjoy the geekier things in life: Computers, Games, Good-old Table Top Roleplaying, Fantasy litterature... I WILL fix your computer, because I think it's fun to do so.

A Long Long Time Ago...

,

...I decided to do this blog.

I have been very busy (duh!) with things like Games, Movies, and making our Digital Box for the TV work.

Important news from my corner of life: I have a job next year too.

Elections again, but this time American. Finally! Bush's gang has always rubbed me the wrong way (as he has most Europeans, as you know). My wife is American so we spent almost the whole election night up watching CNN and BBC World. For once I miss Fox News, would have been fun to see them eat crow Live.

Yes I know I am an evil person. That's why my wife loves me wink

Addicted to Games...

I have been away a long time, or rather I have been on the other computer. I have been playing Baldur's Gate again for the first time in eight years. It's really an amazing game, especially for being that old.

Nothing really new in RealityWorld except that the election is drawing closer. Not impressed with any of the parties, really, I just vote against those I hate the most. Sad but true.

Munchkin Times!

, , , ...

Oooh I am all excited! jester
I am going to play Munchkin tonight for the first time in six months (at least). I love that stupid little game, but we don't have any close friends living nearby. I have to go four towns over, a 2½ hour trip, to do it. So I will spend the night.

I just got my hands on the fourth expansion of the game, "Need for Steed". I haven't even shuffled that one into the deck yet... I suck at that, btw, but our friend T claims that he has another friend who just looooves to shuffle. Believe it or not.

Anyway... I will have a good time!

Wet. Very Wet.

Has the summer ended? Looks like it. For three days straight it has now poured down cats and dogs, at least 6 hours a day. Not that it's cold, it's still summer temperature (NORMAL summer temperatures, a little over 20 degrees Celsius) but I have been very spoiled this summer.
I just have to buy myself a proper umbrella..

...Getting depressed by the weather. Usually that doesn't happen until late October but appart from the temperature it has very much felt like October for the last week. Dark, wet and windy.
Even re-arranged the music on my player to reflect the mood.

They say tomorrow will be better but I don't believe it until I see it.

News from RealityWorld:
Looks like I was a little premature in my criticism of the boring election campaigns; things are heating up. Of course the arguments are just as silly and uninspiring as you might expect. Except the Far Left that is just as far down Crazy Alley as they usually are. More money for everyone, but no raised taxes, and of course the slight stench of Communist that especially the younger members reek of.

Election Year

, , , ...

Reports from RealityWorld Indicates that this is the Slowest most Pointless Election Campaign Ever!
Seriously, it's only a month left before the election of parliament and I have seen one (1) campaign-worker so far. Maybe the heat has something to do with it, I don't know (and if the heat HAS something to do with it, I wonder if it is too hot for the politicians to bother getting out there and be seen or if they assume that we - the public - are too busy sunbathing to care?), in any case I keep forgetting about the election. There are not even any Big Ugly Billboards (tm) to stare at along the roads.
Of course this year neither side of the scale has anything amazingly new; The Left says "Everything is fine, really. Don't look to hard and if you see anything wrong then it's your own fault", while The Right says "Things are not THAT bad but we think we could do a tinsy bit better than those guys. Please vote for us". As a voter with both feet firmly placed right in the middle of the political scale I feel amazingly unmoved by the whole thing, it's like they don't even try to lure me to either side.
Personally I fear that all those that in the polls (because pre-election polls are never correct, anyway) say they will not vote for our present Prime-minister (who is an ass, IMHO) will vote for him anyway when the day comes because as all Swedes they are too afraid of change to dare to vote for anyone else.
In theory this election has the posiblity to be very interesting because both sides are more even than they have been for 15 years, but again, polls always lies.

In other news:
The British Police seems to know what they are doing. I don't know much about the British legal system but I doubt these people will spend much more time outside prison.

I NEED A NEW COMPUTER

, , , ...

Today's RealityWorld Report:
...No, really I don't, but I want one. Badly.
This old thing is definitely becoming obsolete really soon; It's a 2.4Ghz, 748Mb PIV. An old one too, so those 2.4Ghz are not exactly working as hard as they can.
Unfortunately there is this thing called "economy" to take in consideration and it doesn't seem like we can afford one this year.
At least so far, the new games I am interested in seems to be made by people who understands that not everyone will have the latest Windows Vista (tm) and (yuck!!) machine any time soon (I will never upgrade to Vista anyway, I truly hope this piece of crap will be MS biggest and first flop, but I don't hold my breath. A lot of people are stupid enough to go and buy a new computer just so they can run it, I'm sure).
...If only all the games I like were working on Linux... My fingers itches badly everytime someone mentions Ubuntu. My wife has been promised an old laptop, and I will try to get her to let me install Ubuntu on that instead of W2K just to show her how good Linux is these days.

In other News:
The mushroom season is upon us. Finally. As a Swede I love taking half a day and go to my parent's house and into the forest to look for the little buggars. Despite this summer being really really dry and it's still very early in the season, we found a little more than 4 litres (a gallon, basically) of different kinds of wild mushrooms.
I am really looking forward to eating them.

...And By The Way:
Go visit Foamy, or God will punish you. I'm told. No really, He will...!
Seriously: This is the funniest rodent on the planet.

Ps. No I do not mean magic mushrooms. I mean the regular kind you have with your steak.

Monday Blues and Game Addiction

, , ,

...No, not gambling, Game...

Monday morning again. Not that bad however, weather is still incredible. I just hate waking up this early in the morning (5:40 am), but hey, it gets me home earlier so...

Sims 2 is very addicting, and so is Civ IV. I have had no time trying any new games for months. Of cours I also have a Life (tm), so I can't play 24/7. On the other hand I have never been as far gone as some people I know, or at least know of: One of my sister's school buddies from her University studies missed at least two crucial tests because he was home plaing Civ (II, as this was about 10 years ago).

I promised myself right then to never let a computer rule my life. And now I am blogging, go figure. p

Maybe it's time for a list?

The 10 most addicting games I have ever played? Here we go:

10 - Sims (the original)
9 - Baldur's Gate
8 - Colonization
7 - Starcraft
6 - Civ II
5 - Civ IV
4 - Sims 2
3 - Diablo II
2 - Diablo
1 - Baldur's Gate II

Todays Headlines From RealityWorld:
The world is fucked by the weather is nice.
(Pardon my french but as I said... Monday morning...)

Lazy Mornings...

For once we have absolutely nothing to do on a Saturday... Just woke up and it's 11:00 am! The cats looked at me with a deeply dissatisfied look on their faces: "Where is our food, hairless monkey??"

We MIGHT go to the theatre tonight and watch Pirates II, but nothing is decided yet. But until then... lazzzzzy...!

And now for our first RealityWorld Update: So while the world has gone mad, as usual, and people kill eachother just as good as they did 1000 years ago, over the exact same issues, I sit here and write about nothing special.
I walked by a stand in the main square yesterday where some people from Lebanon who was collecting money to bring their relatives to Sweden... I am not a religious person but thank God I wasn't born in the Middle East!

In other news from RealityWorld, on a lighter side, this summer seems to never want to end. It finally cooled down slightly at night so that sleeping is possible. Not that I am complaining, really, this summer have been amazing, but without AC life in a small appartment can be... warm.
I haven't seen the electic bill yet, but having all those fans going 24/7 can't be good! Jesper and Sofi (the cats) have been very calm and pleasant all summer instead of their usual selfs. Can't really blame them.
The Pizza bill is higher than ever too, don't really feel like heating up the place even more by cooking, if we don't have to.
I have to wonder, however, if having a really good Pizza place 3 doors down from our appartment really is good for us rolleyes ... Future will tell, I'm sure.
