Alabama baseball has kicked into high gear. They obliterated Troy [St.] last night to the tune of 22-4. It isn't often I get to see two grand slams. The Tide will take on #2 LSU this weekend here at home, but I can't see it. :frown: I'll be in beachy Jacksonville, FL for some cousin's wedding.

After Jacksonville, there's A-Day and Trent's wedding next weekend. (Party at my place April 17!) Then the Dave Matthews concert on Monday, 4/20. Then I'm off to Orlando for the rest of the week for the Talisma Customer Conference. Cathy plans on visiting the weekend after that. UA graduation is the Saturday after that. Saint James class of '99 reunion is the Saturday after that! (Ohhhh God.) Then I'm finally free for a while.

Not sure if I've mentioned here yet, but I'm going with a bunch of friends to Belize this summer! The hotel and flight are both taken care of. All that's left is to actually go, then figure out how to get from Belize City to Placencia. After that it's a matter of choosing our adventures.

I really want to get the Braves "Summer Saturdays" four game ticket pack. Matchups include the Brewers (6/6), Mets (7/18), Dodgers (8/1), and Phillies (8/15), and as of now I'm free for all of them. I already scored free tickets to the Friday night, July 31 game against the Dodgers. It would be awesome to stay that night and go back to the Saturday game. Anyone want to get in on this with me? The cheapest seats for this package are $11 (per game) and are in the upper deck. The most expensive are still only $35 and on the terrace level (way worth it). But you can mix and match seats for each game. Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Game on!

Braves announcer Skip Caray dies

Braves announcer Skip Caray
"I'm 68," Caray said on April 2. "If I go tonight, I've had a hell of a life."

Skip was able to make it another four months, but died this afternoon at home while napping.

Skip Caray was the favorite play by play announcer of every Braves fan for the last 32 years. He will be missed.

While his presence may be gone, Caray's voice will continue forever live with the history of the Braves. His most memorable call arguably came when he exclaimed, "Yes! Yes! Yes!" after Braves center fielder Marquis Grissom caught the final out of the 1995 World Series.

The two sons will carry on the family's rich broadcasting tradition, which began with Skip's father, Harry Caray, a Hall of Fame announcer [for the Chicago Cubs] who remains one of the most popular figures in baseball history.

Josh currently calls games for the Braves' Class A affiliate in Rome, Ga., and Chip serves as both a Braves announcer and the play-by-play announcer for TBS' Major League Baseball coverage.

The Dugout: Chuck Knoblauch Is a Sonofabitch

All baseball (Braves fans in particular), please, please, please read this imaginary conversation between Chuck Knoblauch and Lonnie Smith. It's freakin' hysterical.

Earlier today, Mr. Lackey reported that Chuck Knoblauch has been subpoenaed before the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee. And you know what? Chuck seems like a nice guy, and he was a good ballplayer. He played hard for a small-market World Series champ. When he was with the World Champion New York Yankees, he continued to play hard.

The thing is, though.... I'm a Braves fan. He singlehandedly cost the Braves the 1991 World Series. Hats off to him for that; he utilized the art of deception perfectly. After all, that's what the game of baseball is all about. For a year, at least, he destroyed the hopes of my favorite team, but he accomplished it with some hard-nosed, middle-infield, teddy-ballgame stewardship. It doesn't get too much more baseball than that.

The transgressions of Chuck Knoblauch, in the eyes of Braves fans, are chronicled after the jump.
One of the blog comments says it best:
Cloverfield...Lonnie Smith....Hoveround....

I think my head just exploded.

The only thing missing was Rafael Belliard hiding in Kevin Tapani's giant chin canyon afraid that Puckett and Hrbek would eat him.

At least Teixeira's workin' out for us.

The Braves.

They go back and forth with the Astros. Braves give up a grand slam in the 8th inning. It goes to extra innings. 'Stros get 2 in the 12th. Braves also get 2 in the 12th. Houston wins it in the 14th. Atlanta burned 13 pitchers.

What is it with Houston and extra inning losses?

I just spent the last 5+ hours watching this game loss. I think I need a girlfriend or something. I can't keep spending my nights like this. I'll turn in to a legit alcoholic.

Correction: Atlanta burned 8 pitchers last night.

IDK, my BFF Jill?

, , ,

As if I didn't already put enough time into my one fantasy baseball team, "keepin' I.T. real," I am now awaiting the 3pm draft of a midseason league I'm joining. The name of the team is... "IDK, my BFF Jill?"

Aaaand, here's a Facebook group if you need it.

I just had a delicious, homemade grilled cheese sandwich with pepper ham. Gotta love moms. Add in a Braves game vs. the Cubs, and you got yourself a nice little Saturday.
