French music

, ,

I know that it is a widespread knowledge that French music is not hip. And in many ways I agree. But like there is an exception for every rule, France is blessed to have spawned several good quality contemporary musicians and among those my favourite has to be Yann Tiersen! He's is very talented and his music is so atmospheric, sometimes melancholic, sometimes a bit chirpy but always beautiful.

If you don't know him, here is a sample of his work.

and it's controversial frontman Bertrand Cantat. Yes I like a few of their songs but that's all.

i dare to contradict. there has always been a "hip" french music-szene. unfortunately, most of them are only known in france, especially if they perform in french.

but i have to admit, that i never saw or heard of any french musician in the last 20something years whom i adored as much as Helno "Noël" Rota, who overdosed yery young around 1992/1993.

you find his grave at Cimetière de Pantin, his epitaph (from a song by Jacques Brel) reads: "De Foire en Foire, De Verre en Verre, De Boire en Boire, Je Mords Encore a Pleine Dents, Je Suis un Mort, Encore Vivant."

Hello, Tyrolean!
How's it going in Innsbruck?

SPAM was not meant to Christel's contribution. SPAM refers to a blog post that someone pasted here and on other sites to gain access to e-mail addresses, through which he can then send illegal advertising.
Excuse the misunderstanding!

Concerning your statement about the French music scene, I can only agree with you completely. It simply lacks the awareness outside of France.

It's nice to find someone from the Alps here!
How is the tourists rip-off running this year?

xoxo from the Piefke!
Axel

Well you are more knowledgeable than me... I have never heard of him. I like his epitaph however! What's your favourite song of his?

By the way that SPAM thing: does it mean that my account has been hacked? I hope not...

hmmm, just butting in here lol bigsmile I loved the pop-hits of some French artists (or French speaking in any event) like Julien Clerc and other chansonniers. In Holland you could hear an occasional song in French now and again, but I have to agree that over the last couple of decades the language has diminished in popular culture. Unfortunately, because it is such an enchanting language.

One of my (old-time) favourites was "Desenchante(e)" by Mylene Farmer. It was re-vamped by Belgian singer Kate Ryan but that was crap p OK, it was an OK cover but compared to the original...bah....

I'm not that familiar with recent French music and am also not the type to go hunting for it....I would simply have to hear something in passing (as in on a radio or tv) and it would have to catch my ear to get me active and searching smile

No, some people (mostly from Nigeria) create an account in the opera community like u and me. then they send messages like the text u deleted to get answer by other users. These other users mail them via their own e-mail-account (Hotmail, GMX). This mail-accounts will be cracked then and used to send fraud-mails over their adressbooks.
Mostly the recipients of those mails had the abused mail-adresses on their white or friends list. The result ist that the firewall of the recipient doesn´t filter.
Attention!
If somebody asks you to write to him directly to his e-mail address, great caution should be exercised. Don´t do it and report the user immediately to the Admin!

Mylene Farmers Videos are very hot and fantastic.

@ BLACKlittleThorn: Helno Rota was the singer and soul of a very popular french band called "les negresses vertes". there are only few videos of bad quality. i´ll publish a youtube-link on my blog, so you can listen yourself.

We actually have one album by Les Negresses Vertes.... Didn't know their singer killed himself!

Very fast-paced music (overall), kinda gypsy like...but very nice!

Thank you Axel for putting my mind at ease regarding the "spam".

I agree Mylene Farmer's clips (especially during the late 80s and early 90s) are superb! Very atmospheric! In fact in most cases I thought that the song was accessory! The clip being the focus instead of the song!!!! But now obviously because of these great videos, as soon as you hear the song again you remember the video!
