BO18's Photojournal

This Blog is dedicated to the events in the Middle East and especially Lebanon.
I won't write but I will show. So that means, no long stories but photos. No comments but views.
A picture captures an event better than a story.
You will also encounter scenic pictures of Lebanon. I feel obliged to share the beauty of Lebanon with the Opera-members wink
You'll find the pictures in the photo album. See the button above this post or click on the picture you'll see in each blog-entry

Enjoy.

Dear Iranian asylumseekers

Dear Iranian asylumseekers,

if you're seeking asylum in the 'enlightened' Europe because of your sexual orientation or because you converted to Christianity, don't come to the Netherlands.
Not that I don't want you here. You're most welcome since I enjoy your old culture and your awareness of that.
But because of our Dutch minister of Immigration, Rita Verdonk, has gone mad and declared that she will send you back to Iran. In her opinion the Islamic dictatorial country is safe for homosexuals and apostates.
You don't have to fear your life, you just have to be silent and secretive about your sexual orientation and beliefs. You'll be just fine in Iran!

Support Arab Democracy

At this moment, dictatorial regimes still prevail in the Middle East.
Nonetheless, the region is experiencing a growth in pro-democracy movements and (little) steps undertaken by governments towards democracy.
As citizens of a democratic and free world we should support these movements and individuals who endanger their lives by vocalizing the call for reform.

Christian presence in Lebanon

Lebanon, an Arab country in the Middle East, is known for her large christian community ( approximately 40% of the population)
The christians of this country aren't a homogeneous group but a diverse combination of different sects and ethnicities. Armenian, Arab, Assyrian and Phoenician christians all found their refuge in this small and geographically isolated country.
Having suffered centuries of prosecution ( by the Persians, the conservative muslim rulers, the Ottomans and even the Crusaders) they fled to Lebanon and managed to create it into a multiconfessional country.
The christian heritage of Lebanon is by far the most impressive in the Eastern Medditeranean.
Churches, convents, monestaries and Maria-statues are scattered all around the country. Side by side with the Islamic centers.
Today, the christian community of Lebanon is still a powerful force in the Lebanese politics ( the president, for instance, has to be a Maronite Christian) and economy.
In the photoalbum you'll see photos of some of the churches and monestaries.
Enjoy wink !
