A Dream within a Dream by Edgar Allen Poe (1809 - 1849)

Take this kiss upon the brow!
And, in parting from you now,
Thus much let me avow-
You are not wrong, who deem
That my days have been a dream;
Yet, if Hope has flown away
In a night, or in a day,
In a vision, or in none,
Is it, therefore, the less gone?
All that we see or seem
Is but a dream within a dream.
I stand amid the roar
Of a surf-tormented shore,
And I hold within my hand
Grains of golden sand-
How few! yet how they creep
Through my fingers to the deep,
While I weep- while I weep!
O God! can I not grasp
Them with a tighter clasp?
O God! can I not save
One from the pitiless wave?
Is all that we see or seem
But a dream within a dream?

LOVE'S LABOR NEVER LOST NOR ONLY DREAMED
Take this hand and place in thine
let it lift you, do not pine.
Love is ever near not far,
no matter where you find you are.
And love's labor is not lost,
though clouds may hover
in sky storm tossed.
Take this heart and let it show
that love is held, to never go
and in the power of such thing
it wraps you in its covering.
This is no dream, it fills thy heart
mind and soul and never will part.
Take both my hands, they are in thine,
feel our mutual love divine.
Love conquers distance, time and place
and I see love shine from thy face.
Oh Love - thou art the sweetest thing
let all thy song above us ring.
