narrator: after imbibing the herbal draught concocted by scott earthstrong the white magician disguised as an humble gardener, king loku fell into a deep and dreamless sleep. when he awakened, the spell that had caused him to treat himself so cruelly was broken.

and looking at the dark black walls of the dungeon and feeling the weight of not one but two balls and chains nagging his wrist and ankle. he suddenly thought "what am i doing here? ahhh, i remember... that pious minister prescribed this self-incarceration and somehow put a spell on me. guards guards guard! get me out of here, i've had enough!" he commanded. then thought, "at least being immobilized, i had a chance to write this cool poem."

"oh no, i remember now.... ohhh the vanity. oh, holy maceral! i still am so vain... hmmm i feel a song coming on... ya probly think this song is about me, don't you , don't you? :sing:

Narrator: The dream had been a vivid one.King Loku woke suddenly to find he was now slumped against the wall of the black room, the chair half turned over.He sighhhed a long sigh, the sound echoing in the silence. "yo - king mah man, wasssaaap?". That dam dream again. But no, the quaint otherworld greeting had come from nearby. King Loku sat upright and peered around. The door was open. Sitting by it was a face he hadn't seen for a while. Not since a certain party in a weird house somewhere else in a place called... the King struggled to remember... woodsto?... woodtos?...wudstok! ..yes that was the place. It had been a time of other-fantasy.and the figure now grinning at him from the doorway had been layed down, crooning, imbibing a white vapor from a large bowled pipe and chanting, in a language sublime, archaic, the mantra "its farrrrrrr out mannnnnn.!" as a seraphic smile flooded his face.

Yes, it was the same man, his adoptive bro' Scott Earthstrong. In that other-place he had been known as scott-the-hoople by many of his followers. The King's poem on the wall had hoped for release from the black room and now Scott Earthstrong had arrived at last.
But wait, surely there were more verses to be added to the poem? The glory of the King and his undoubted handsomeness were only lightly touched on in the poem. Had he done justice to his good looks, his ego, his natural vanity? What if others read the poem and murmured ...'"seems a modest kinda guy"... ?.

The thought of this disturbed the royal mind. He called across to his rescuer.... "be right with you mah bro' ...soon as i finished this poem about me". His friend smiled and took out a large bowled pipe and lit up...... :wink:

" yes, we had this same conversation four decades ago in entwood on the river charles in boston." you don't remember. and, you still think it's just a whim of mine. but the principle has been understood for milleniums. and the practice of mindfull action has been passed down from one to another. aren't you ready yet to make an effort for the good of your people?"

then with a mildly irritated expression, old earthstrong looked king loku, his worldly brother in spirit, straight in the eye and asked, "can't you sacrifice one thing?".
