Tough being a chicken

I was sneezing the other day, glad I'm not a chicken or I'd have someone stuffing me in a black bag by now. Central government have reacted strongly, in Beijing, as most bigger cities, it is hard to find fresh chicken meat, well nigh on impossible.
Gone are the days when one could take a pleasant stroll thru a crowded open market, admire the beautiful plumage of ones soon to be dinner as it chuckled and crowed in a bamboo cage, then bargain with the store owner before the chopper fell.
Warm, fresh meat to be nicely stir fried, baked or sauted that night.
Now, one is restricted to buying from the frozen goods counter at the local supermarkets, pre sectioned, frozen and heat sealed in a poly carbide tray, with glad wrap.
Didn't I hear a while back that stuff was linked to cancer?
I would like to think when and if this is all over, the markets will return, but somehow I doubt it. So another piece of Chinese culture falls to the encroaching western modernisation.
Meanwhile KFC continues to expand almost as fast as the Chinese waists and bums, but that's another story.
