WHY WAS JESUS BAPTISED?

MaRK 1:9-11

The baptism of John was into repentance; for those sorry for their sins. Why then did was baptised? He was born sinless,died sinless,rose sinless and is now sinlessly sitting at the right hand of the father. Why go through the baptism of John?
The simplest answer to this question ,which many friends have been asking me, gives four reasons for His baptism.

1. It was a moment of DECISION.
For thirty years He had been among His relatives. He had been doing carpentry with His father.Now He needed to decide for His course of action.The coming of John was the sign He had been waiting for before He embark on the ministry. This, He saw was the moment of decision to launch out upon His ministry.
In every life, there come moments of decisions which we may accept or reject. Have you reached this moment in your life?

2. It was a moment of IDENTIFICATION.
All what Jesus did was to identify Himself with the Godward movement taking place at that moment. Only there then people would identify Him.
No matter how important one may be,there is a need to be identified with those of low status, whom you are to work among. This helps to better reach them.Jesus was registering Himself among the people.

3. It was a moment of APPROVAL.
Before any man embarks on a journey, he seeks an approval from relatives and parents. Jesus had decided His course; He needed a seal of approval from God. "You are my son......(Psalm 2:7) I'm well pleased with you" In other way God was saying; " I approve of your action. Go on your journey."
At this moment God was unmistakably approving of Jesus' decision. Who approves your course of actions?

4. It was a moment of EQUIPMENT
As soon as Jesus came up out of the water, John saw the heavens torn open and the Holy Spirit , like a dove coming down to enter into Jesus.
He was equippedwith the Spirit of gentleness.He was to conquer with a conquest of love.
He lacked no resources in His ministry. Soon after the baptism, everything was in sufficient supply.. What seemed small became much with Him. He was equipped to the full.
This is the reason why he was baptised in the baptism of John; the baptism of repentance.

WHY DO THE WICKED PROSPER?

Is my complaint directed to man? Listen on to the wisdom of old.
When I think about this one thing in this life.
I am terrified and trembling seizes my body.
Yes ,jealousy grows much without understanding.
Why do the wicked prosper and why do evil men live on?
They grow on and increase in power.They see their children established arround them.
Their homes are safe and free from disaster; the rod of God's anger seem not to be on them.
Their fowl and cattle cease not to breed.
Their children dance arround ,they make merry to the sounds of their happiness.
They spend their years in prosperity and go to grave in peace.
Yet the righteous knows no peace of any sort.
The wicked despises God and say, "Leave us alone; we desire not to know your ways.
We have knowledge and wisdom of our own.
What would we gain by following you? What happiness is in worshipping God.?
We get what we have by our own wisdom.God is just a dellusion.
Let our souls rejoice in our prosperity; Enjoy the fruit of our hands.
Yet how often does calamity come upon them?
Yes, God is too patient for them. He promised to wait until they know the truth.
Never be upset oh! righteous man.For it shall be well with you.
You will prosper in everlasting peace.He who called you shall provide for you.
God is giving them time to REPENT.

BEHOLD, A VIRGIN WILL BE WITH A CHILD...

"Behold, a virgin shall be with a child,and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel" This statement is a repeat by Mathew of the prophecy of Isaiah some 700 years ago.
By the fact that it was a virgin who conceived proves that Jesus Christ was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of a virgin mother without the intervention of human father.
This virgin birth of our Lord Jesus qualifies Him to be our sacficial lamb once and for all. The virgin birth satisfies three requirements for a redeemer: He was to be in one person,fully human,sinless and fully divine.
Therefore the only way He Could be born human being was to be born of a woman. The only way He could be sinless man was to be conceived by the Holy Spirit (Heb.4:15) The only way He could have been deity with God was to have God as His father.
Luke quote a messanger as saying,"....the holy thing which shall be born of you shall be called the son of God"Luke 1:35.
In this case Jesus is revealed to us as one divine person with two natures-sinless human born to us as a child and divine given to us as a son of God.
O come you faithful therefore, and cebrate His birth with all reverance.
