A Week Of Linux!

I took the plunge and installed a second hard drive into my computer, and 5 minutes later, installed Ubuntu 7.04 on it. I really didn't expect it to be so cool! It's so much better organized than Windows and has a lot of free apps and games. Here's a list of some Windows apps and their replacements in Linux. And may I remind you, Linux CAN run Windows apps!

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) - OpenOffice
    Quake/Doom - Open Arena/Sauerbraten
CD/DVD Burners (ie Nero) - Built in to OS (uses folder, and then you click burn)
iTunes - Rhythymbox Music Player (to play songs)/gtkPod (to sync with iPod)
    WMP (for videos) - MPlayer
    Any 3D modeling program - Blender3D
Limewire (already made for Linux too)
Firefox/Opera (already made for Linux too)

Yeah, I love Ubuntu, too.

Check out the Gimp and Inkscape if you haven't already. Fun stuff.
