8-bit Gingerbread House!

, ,

Part 2 of Becky's Chicago Adventure will have to wait (if anyone's actually interested in reading it, that is...). But I thought I would post this holiday treat for everyone! Matthew and I made this late last night. At one point, I didn't know if I'd be able to finish making it because I discovered a centipede/cockroach/alien bug crawling on the wall, and I got a bad case of the heeeeebie jeeeeeebies! I regained my composure though, and we were able to churn out this lovely masterpiece, complete with Fireflower/Link roof and Mario, Toad, Mega Man, and SMB3 leaf gingerbreads! Enjoy!

Becky Celebrates National Holiday!

, , , ...

Today is Flag Day! Today is also nearly one month after I last posted, which is just not right, because the posts should be flowing! Perhaps it is all the Pokemon and painting attempts that have been keeping me too busy! Here are some other things that have happened:

  • I botched another cooking attempt! I have boiled something over 5 times now in the past couple of weeks--hamburger helper, pasta salad, and now mashed potatoes! I was even watching to see that it didn't boil over, and as soon as I took it off the heat, milk, butter and water erupted forth like some sort of monster! And then when that was over I slopped half of it onto the fridge and floor while trying to stir. BLAH.
  • Instead of moving to Chicago in October, I am moving in JULY! That's right! In just a little less than 3 weeks I will depart, and I am very excited! I am also experiencing a heavy influx of lectures and such from family members about "staying true to yourself, remembering your roots" and things like that. As if Chicago was out to corrupt me!
  • I also got my schedule figured out! I will be taking an array of fun classes, SUCH AS Costume History, Survey of the Fashion Industry, Textiles, and Clothing Construction 1! And I'm getting a sewing machine soon, so now I can finally make those pants I've been wanting to make!
  • The Humane Society has been quite lovable. Today I went into the Cat Condo and immediately had a fluffy gray and white cat launch himself onto my shoulders, where he wrapped himself around my neck and purred quite loudly! It was like having a live shawl!

I forgot to mention in the midst of my Flag Day celebration festivities that it is also my BIRTHDAY! I got a number of great presents from Matthew, including a tiny Yoshi in a Go-Kart that zooms around if you pull it backwards and let it go! I brought it to work today so I could make it go from my counter space to Deborah's, another person that I work with!

I will try and post more frequently--after all, I will have scads of stories once I move to Chicago!

Happy Valentine's Day from Beeks!

This is a little late (I work odd hours!), but I thought I'd say it anyway, since it is a holiday and all--Happy Valentine's Day! I tell you, the most romantic video game moment I can remember is when Booster kissed Bowser in Super Mario RPG. It was so *heartwarming!*

Games for couples (or singles!) to play on Valentine's Day!

There's no better way to spend the holiday that's all about love than to curl up with some sweet edibles, a great video game, and your special someone! And even if you don't have a significant other to share games with at the moment, you can STILL grab those sweet edibles and do some serious gaming!

Games to play together!

  • Lego Star Wars I or II (Gamecube): At present, I think this could quite possibly be the best game to play with another person. It's fun, you work as a team (which is why it is so great for couples!), and you can spend hours trying to find all of the secrets! Plus, playing this game usually makes me want to either a) watch all the Star Wars movies in succession, or b) build something with Legos! (other fun couple activities!)
  • Wii Sports (Wii): I bet you knew this one was coming! Pretty much any multiplayer game for the Wii is a good bet, Wii Sports especially. Beforehand, you and your sweetheart can spend time cooing over your cute little Miis before pitting them against each other in heated tennis matches!
  • Warioware: Smooth Moves (Wii): Play this game on Valentine's Day for giggle-value. Nothing lightens the mood more than Warioware!
  • Rayman and the Raving Rabbids (Wii): Another game to play for laughs! Just be sure to unlock all the single-player games beforehand so you can play everything in multiplayer mode. By far the funnest aspect of this Rayman installment is the arcade-style shooting gallery, where you and a friend can team up to shoot plungers at bunnies!
  • Super Monkey Ball: Any of the Monkey Ball games for the Gamecube or the Wii are surefire games for couples to play together--easy to learn, difficult to master! Plus, there are monkeys! Who doesn't love a cute monkey?
  • Mario Party: Take your pick of any of the Mario Party games and you've got a wild night! In fact, the Mario Party games are great for double dates! A good bet for a significant other, the mini games are easy enough for even the lightest gamer!
  • Animal Crossing (Gamecube): This technically isn't a game that couples can play together, but if each of you move into respective houses in the same town, you can mail each other little love letters and bury special gifts in the ground! (a front yard laced with pitfalls, anyone?)
  • Secret of Mana (SNES): OK, this is an old game--but it's a 2 player RPG for heaven's sake! If you think you and your sweetheart can play through an entire RPG, do it! What a bonding experience!

Going solo for Valentine's Day? Hey, that's ok!
I've got three games featuring characters that fight evil alone!

  • Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes: Oh yeah! See, you don't need a date on Valentine's Day! You can man it up and play as Snake!
  • Metroid Prime: Or you can woman it up by playing as Samus Aran, the armor clad heroine that travels the galaxy fighting the Space Pirates. She's so independant and cool!
  • Resident Evil 4: Talk about lady issues! First Ada Wong abandons Leon on that island with nothing but a jetski, then Leon turns down Ashley (but that's a good thing, she got on my nerves!) only to get turned down himself by that lady in the walkie-talkie! But it's all good--blasting away stuff with the infinite rocket launcher will make anyone forget about all those worries!

Nintendo treats! (kind of)

,

It was a cold day in Kansas, but that didn't stop your old friend Beeks from baking up a storm! Besides chocolates, Valentine's Day cookies are about the tastiest treat one can eat on this day! I decided to spruce them up a bit to make them Nintendo-blog-worthy by turning an ordinary heart cookie into a Legend of Zelda Heart Container! A Heart Container Confection, if you will! The result at the right is "mmmmmmmeh," and I say "mmmmmmmmeh" because they look "meh" but are "mmmmmmmm" tasty! I am not the best froster in the world, but I certainly did try! I'm sure if I gave these to any Zelda fan they would appreciate them! (I hope!) My recommendation for you if you decide to make your own heart container cookies is to top them off with this sweet Valentine, as seen on 4 Color Rebellion!

I just love the play on words!

Create a Valen-tendo for Valentine's Day!

,

Besides Christmas, I think Valentine's Day just might be my favorite holiday--it's when all the best candy comes out in the store and a wealth of chocolate becomes available! This year is different, though. The other day, I said to myself, "Becky, stop thinking about yourself and your own tummy! How about sharing the love with other people?" So, fear not, Nintendo Blog friends, for I have some Valentine's Day ideas for you! Whether you have your own special someone you're going solo, I've got some holiday fun up my sleeve that will help you participate in the festivities--Nintendo-style!

  • Make your own Valentine!

Dust off your copy of Mario Paint for the SNES and go hog wild by making your own Valentine! You can leave it on your TV for the recipient mega-tron style (like at baseball games! but in your, um, basement, or what have you.) Or, if you have a nice enough camera and actually KNOW how to take good pictures of your TV (as you can see, I obviously do not!), snap a pic and print it off yourself! Here are some of my ideas! You don't think they're a bit much, do you? >_<

  • Compose your own Love Song!

Don't put Mario Paint away quite yet! Tap into your inner song-writer and compose something utterly saccharine-sweet in Composer mode! Better yet, compose it ENTIRELY using the heart shape!!

  • Give a gift!

There are gifts, and then there are romantic Nintendo gifts. Buy them for someone special, or secretly purchase them for yourself!!

Forget those Zale's Jewelry ads! These lovable baby Bowser earrings are sure to turn heads. And they'll probably help you win every time you play Mario Party as well! I found these on eBay!

As if puppies weren't cute enough, now you've got two Nintendogs wearing Mario hats!! You can get these on eBay too!

This mug is especially fitting for a Valentine's day gift because it has hearts on it--the cool kind of heart--your life meter! Check out CafePress to find this mug and other Nintendo-inspired swag!!

Next up, games to play with your special Valentine (or just yourself! I've got ideas for you too!), and also an attempt to make Valentine's Day "Zelda Heart Container" cookies!
