I'm going to try
really hard to keep up the Beeks Place blog again! I miss blogging on a regular basis, plus I have all these stories from work that I have to talk about to
SOMEBODY! And, of course, I'm going to turn my short little summer break into a Chicago adventure--so I'll have to chronicle that too!
So let's see...what's happened since Christmas?

Today is Flag Day! Today is also nearly one month after I last posted, which is just not right, because the posts should be
flowing! Perhaps it is all the Pokemon and painting attempts that have been keeping me too busy! Here are some other things that have happened:
- I botched another cooking attempt! I have boiled something over 5 times now in the past couple of weeks--hamburger helper, pasta salad, and now mashed potatoes! I was even watching to see that it didn't boil over, and as soon as I took it off the heat, milk, butter and water erupted forth like some sort of monster! And then when that was over I slopped half of it onto the fridge and floor while trying to stir. BLAH.
- Instead of moving to Chicago in October, I am moving in JULY! That's right! In just a little less than 3 weeks I will depart, and I am very excited! I am also experiencing a heavy influx of lectures and such from family members about "staying true to yourself, remembering your roots" and things like that. As if Chicago was out to corrupt me!
- I also got my schedule figured out! I will be taking an array of fun classes, SUCH AS Costume History, Survey of the Fashion Industry, Textiles, and Clothing Construction 1! And I'm getting a sewing machine soon, so now I can finally make those pants I've been wanting to make!
- The Humane Society has been quite lovable. Today I went into the Cat Condo and immediately had a fluffy gray and white cat launch himself onto my shoulders, where he wrapped himself around my neck and purred quite loudly! It was like having a live shawl!
I forgot to mention in the midst of my Flag Day celebration festivities that it is also my BIRTHDAY! I got a number of great presents from
Matthew, including a tiny Yoshi in a Go-Kart that zooms around if you pull it backwards and let it go! I brought it to work today so I could make it go from my counter space to Deborah's, another person that I work with!
I will try and post more frequently--after all, I will have scads of stories once I move to Chicago!

life, Beefs, happenings, Beeks
I awoke at 4 AM this morning to torrents of RAIN and claps of THUNDER! Then I suddenly remembered that the day before I had put my new potted plant on the balcony!!! It is a small plant and I didn't want it to get flooded! I rushed to the balcony and saw another unpleasant surprise!
I LEFT MY FUZZY PINK CHAIR ON THE BALCONY TOO!!!!!
Blast! Luckily, the fan I bought late last night at Wal-Mart (for the sake of airing out my fume-y apartment caused by me starting on my newest art project!) AIR-DRIED my little chair. *Phew!*
But now I need to find a new place to paint because I will be getting a new roommate soon! That spare bedroom I so wanted to turn into Becky's Creativity Hub is now off-limits and must be cleared out!! And I guess I have to learn how to share my Nintendo!

Yes! It has been nearly a month since my last post, and I have managed to grill both hot dogs AND boca burgers in this time period. Oh, and s'mores! The grill is a bit of a challenge--er, maybe it's just me--but a lot of lighter fluid was used in that tiny grill! FIRE!!! At some point I felt insignificant because my neighbor down below was grilling simultaneously on his much larger grill, but that feeling soon waned because I like smaller versions of things (like snack sized candy bars as opposed to king sized; miniature anything) and therefore think my grill is much more fun.
Some UPDATES:
- I have felt like poop more than once this month
- I have pooped more than once this month
- I played with both kitties and puppies at the Humane Society this month. One cat was the size of a beach ball!
- I have been surviving on $1 Tortino's pizzas and hotdogs
- At some point, I intend to start my next painting project!
- I watched Evil Dead this month, and feel like watching Evil Dead 2 tonight!
- I REALLY want to go shopping!
And I saw a RAINBOW yesterday! It was more like a rainbow stump because it didn't go very high. Not even an arch!
I like the new cat on my blog--or is it a mink?? Someday I would like to make my own custom style sheet, but if I can't even figure out Photoshop then I think it would be hard for me to make my own style sheet. SOMEDAY.

Yep, it was a real tussle, too! I was on a walk the other evening, and there were a bunch of MALLARDS going at it! Two were just rolling and tumbling and nipping (or maybe I should say beaking?), and two others were standing around quacking them on! So then I ran up to them, waved my arms and broke up the fight! I hate to see duck conflict!

As I was lugging my 20 bags of groceries up the stairs to my apartment today, I decided to check my mail on the way up--and FOUND TWO LETTERS from the Illinois Institute of Art-Chicago!!! I nearly dropped my Grade AA Large Eggs!!! I raced upstairs to my door (still juggling the groceries!) and as soon as I got inside and dropped everything on the floor, I tore open the first envelope! IT SAID!:
Dear Rebecca,
Congratulations! The Admissions Committee is very pleased to offer you admission to the Illinois Institute of Art at Chicago.
You have been admitted to the Bachelor Degree program in Fashion Design beginning 2007, Fall.
We look forward to welcoming you to the Illinois Institute of Art at Chicago. Again, congratulations!
The second letter informed me of alllll the credits from my previous BA that would transfer (about 72 hours, which will save me around $30,000!!!!!)!!!!!
AND SO there was lots of jumping around, calling friends and the parents, ETC! Mom said she was going to TRY and be excited, but she would miss me very much and that we needed to have a talk SOON about "personal safety" in Chicago.
BUT IN 6 MONTHS I WILL BE GOING TO SCHOOL IN CHICAGO!!!

happenings, Beeks
Today was a generally poopy day. I tried calling 1-800 GO BEEKS to see if the number was anything awesome, but it turned out to be some old man droning about an Omnibus phone service or something. I was QUITE disappointed. With a number like that, it should have been a direct line to the Party Bus!.
And I looked at an apartment today with my friend Jenny! So let's assume the day wasn't so poopy. BUT the landlord said I could paint the walls whatever I wanted (mmmmmmmmRED?!)!! And the kitchen has a breakfast nook! At least, that's what I"m going to call the larger space next to the refrigerator. But most of all, it has a small balcony for sitting outside in the summer and drinking carbonated beverages!
I plan to move in at the beginning of April after my trip to CHICAGO!!!
