From some time ago, I've been feeling the appeal for bike touring.
Therefore I've started adapting my bike, a Mondraker Finalist, a middle level MTB - XC (cross country) bike for it. Preparing myself.
That's the story of this blog.
I hope it also serves as a motivation to others, the same way I had my initial click from a wonderful website from someone that is not anymore amongst us.
If it doesn't, at least it will help me to get on focused.
Enjoy, basically is about self propelled freedom.

The Lagoa de Melides, half way at day 1. The day ended at Porto Côvo.

Day 2, approaching Ilha do Pessegueiro . It was rest day, a day at the beach.
Day 3 was mainly crossing the Serra de Grândola, too much suffering for pictures
The initial itinerary suffered some alterations due to the much more longer first day we had.

There's nothing as alienation for making small people think that they have some grandeur...
I don't do training.

I saw somewhere a bike tourer saying that touring was about two things: Physical strength and mental strength. And he added that maybe the second is more important.
Well, I'm not exactly a superman. I'm relatively tall (1,80m) and thin (63/64 kg). I don't have too much power to my legs. I don't do exercise except for my weekend 20-30km ride. I smoke two packs of cigarettes. It's going to be difficult.
Therefore I'll have to rely basically in my strategy for overcome the difficulties.
It's based on what I call "Zen riding" and consists on two aspects:
Sparing energy. Sparing, sparing and sparing. Be efficient instead of powerful. Be relaxed. No hurry, take my time. Free my mind.
and
Careful planning. Adequate equipment. Short legs no longer than an hour riding. 10-20m rest for stretching and eating. Eating before hungry and drinking before thirsty. Total daily distance no bigger than 50-60km.
How would I know if I can do it if I don't even try, isn't it?

Mondraker Finalist

I've made already three modifications:
Schwalbe Marathon road tires;
Agu handlebar bag;
Rear rack (can't remember the brand);
