cancer, richard gilmour, death, pink floyd
Richard Wright, a founding member of Pink Floyd, died Monday at home in Britain after a battle with cancer. He was 65.
Wright's spacey, layered keyboard sounds, serene harmony and, occasionally, lead vocals were a huge part of the band's music, and he contributed integral pieces to some of Pink Floyd's biggest albums.
Wright met co-founders Roger Waters and Nick Mason in architecture school in 1965, and the three joined with Syd Barrett to form the band that evolved into the Pink Floyd Sound. Barrett was the group's dominant musical personality, but Wright was initially a close second, writing and singing several songs on Pink Floyd's early albums. Later, after David Gilmour replaced Barrett, Wright took on more of a purely instrumental role, though he co-wrote and sang on "Us and Them" from Floyd's 1973 landmark "Dark Side of the Moon."

A temple for the worship of science will open later this month in Berkeley, California.
Conceived by artist Jonathon Keats — designer of the petri dish God — the Atheon is supposed to “provide a spiritual home for rational people,” allowing atheists to nourish regions of the soul typically satisfied by religion.
“The leading minds believe that science can and should provide a spiritually satisfying replacement,” said Keats in a press release. “But until recently no one bothered to consider what form that alternative might take.”
Quoted from gatheist.com - link in Myy Links. What a strange idea. On one hand, I can see how having a center for atheists to gather and disscuss things would be awesome. On the other, are these people actually going to worship something? Will there be religious services, ranks, unifroms, readings or any of that stuff? If not, why call it a church? Why not 'Atheist Community Center'? Is this just to upset theists and right-wingers? If anyone comes across any articles pertaining to this, I'd be delighted if you sent me a link. Same goes for the Petri Dish God thing. I'd heard about it, but I'm still confused.

USA, palin, election, mccain
...
If McCain / Palin win the '08 USA Presidential elections, I might just leave and attend college in the UK or Canada. It's entirely likely that they may win, though.

This is a sad clown moment.

Hooray for Dogs!

I finally took a look at the member of the week blog. Aside form some breath-taking nature shots, there is a very awesome dog there. Obviously.

So, I decided to share my super-sexy dog. I'll post Jet the rottweiler, Benji the teddy bear hamster, Emily, Rocket, Cricket and Whiskey the Himalayan cats... and maybe my Mom's Nicaraguan Red-tailed Boa. This is Happy Jack giving his 'Come Hither' look. EDIT: I took pics of the others. They're in a 'My Pets' Photo Album.

bug, daydream, SAT's
Cried a lot last night. Most likey because of the poison; they firepeople warned us that it would cause a little depression. Hardly felt nauseous at all today.
So my mother and I took my sister to get her hair cut today. Mom told me not to bring my DS because we wouldn't be there long. We were there for four hours. That's two hours -- and then two more! So I ended up reading 'Shape' magazine. I learned all about 'The Cardio excercise Ashley Simpson swears by!' I had my reservations, but hey, would Ashley Simpson lie to us?
An hour of that and I was ready to implode. So I started wondering what life would be like as a bug. Ever done that? Anyway, I decided being a silver fish would be the most interesting. Wouldn't it be cool to live in dusty old books? Of course, eating them would sort of suck. Then I was a dragonfly for a while, but that was a lot more boring than you might think.
(I just realised that there is a Mr. Spock smiley.

Oh. Yes. Live Long And Prosper.

I'm a Star Trek freak.)
Also! I've been thinking about the SAT's a lot lately. Most likely because I take them in three weeks or so. It's sort of what I've been preparing for my entire life. (I'm a nerd, y'see.)If I don't do well on these, well, that's like it for college. I have lots of educational games for my DS. I spend a lot of time doing zoology research... But that's probbly not enough. Everyone tells me to not worry, that I always do well on tests, but this isn't exactly a test.
Also! I saw a panda roll down a little hill on the San Diego (sp?) webcam. Very very cute.
Also once more. Included for your amusement - well, really mine, as I finnd it hilarious - is a picture of two dragonflies. They are having sex.
Ahahahaha.

kittens, sick, pointless, alice in wonderland
...
I've never had a blog before. It never occurred to me that anyone would be interested in any of my thoughts. I think I will die of shock if I get so much as a page view. ^^; I don't often make a lot of sense to other people... I've always sort of felt like a fly on the wall.
Hm. Just a word of advice - expect a lot of weird quotes and referances: Alice in Wonderland, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Pink Floyd, Dream Theater...
So. Today was pretty horrible. For the past week or so, I've been sleepy, achy, vomiting and having migraines. Now we know why: Our carbon monoxide detector went off. Something was wrong with our stove and carbon monoxide was collecting in the house.

I was showing symptoms of poisoning... Luckily, it hadn't gotten dangerous yet. We were able to fix it by shutting off the gas and airing the house out. It was scary when they tested me for the poisoning - with this thing that I slid my finger into. It beeped a lot. - because if the poisoning had been really bad, they said they would've put me in a big MRI-type thing for treatment. I can't stand close spaces. >>;
That wasn't that bad, though. I'll recover. The worst part of the day was when one of my cat had kittens. Her mother looked after them because the real mother was skittish. They all died very shortly after birth... We were expecting it. Anyone could see that they weren't healthy. It was so horrible, though. It was made worse because the surrogate mother was trying so hard to keep them alive. She even snarled at me when I tried to see whether they were still living or not. She'd never done that to me before in her life.
Let's hope tomorrow is better.
