Living in a Bubble

Musings from me. Who else?

Look what I just found...and other stuff

Just found this. Quite good video + tune, I enjoyed listening to it.

In other news I turned 18 on Friday, which is interesting. I got a new Deep Forest album which is absolutely fantastic, and many thanks to my brother for that. I'm absolutely loving it :D I love the 2004 version of 'Sweet Lullaby', and I also love 'Ekue Ekue', there are so many good songs on it, it's great. My brother also got (for himself) the new Fightstar album, 'Be Human', that I pre-ordered for him a while ago as you may remember. It's quite good, I only like a few songs on it as some of them are quite heavy and not really the type of thing I feel like listening to currently. One song I do love is 'Tonight We Burn', that is ace :D

Alongside the new music, I got the 2nd volume of Azumanga Daioh <3, series one of Hustle, a lovely new 50mm lens, a larger new camera bag, Spirited Away, I Am Legend and a few games. Some of these things I bought with some of the money I got, but still. It's so nice, oh I also got a kettel and a stainless steel tankard, interesting I have to say. The former will go to good use at university and the latter will make a nice ornament on my shelf seeing as I don't drink (alcohol that is). I want to rave more about the presents I got, but I'll leave that for another blog post as this one is getting rather lengthy.

The second part

Well I said I would post again before the week was out; so I'll do it now before I go and do some of that dreaded work.

Firstly there have been a few songs released recently by chart based pop artists which have been quite good, including Embers by Just Jack, Shake It by Metro Station, Jai Ho! by A.R. Rahman and Don't Upset the Rhythm by the Noisettes. I usually don't get interested in this stuff but Radio One's Live lounge has certainly sold these artists to me, its good stuff. Another good song that came from the live lounge is Pendulum's cover of Coldplay's Violet Hill

As well as buying those individual songs I've also bought Auch Männer sind Menschen by Brunner & Brunner and Kan Jy My Hoor by a Dutch Just Jack (I was pretty surprised I have to say). As well as obtaining this small collection of individual songs, my brother bought Fightstar's new EP, Mercury Summer. We both really enjoy it and he's looking forward for their album to come out later this month. There's a good electronic mix of Mercury Summer on the EP which my brother hates but I think it's excellent :D. So if you're into Fightstar it's worth getting (I can't really compare them to any other artists as I've not branched out there yet sorry).

Finally, my library on shuffle. Wow. I used to hate listening to my music on shuffle as I would listen to certain albums over and over again and get used to what songs came after what, and my brain would start thinking of the next song as the previous one came to a close. However because I've been less engrossed in indivdual albums I've decided to try the shuffle feature on iTunes (and any other media player for that matter). It's ace hearing songs I've either rarely listened to, barely heard before or songs that I used to listen to a while ago and grown bored of. It's so nice to switch from u-Ziq, to Boards of Canada, to Stars of the lid, to Red Hot Chilli Peppers, to Enigma, to Alphaville and so on and so forth. Having a diverse music collection really helps to, keeps the mind clear and open

It has been a short while

It's only been two weeks and I'm missing posting here already, I've limited myself to posting on Sunday afternoons to make sure I don't run out of content or babble too much. Maybe I'll post more often in the future, maybe not, we'll see.

I think I'll split this up into two blog posts (therefore making my last point somewhat mute), this first one explaining what I was going to explain in the last post. Anyway, first thing's first, I bought three new CDs from a trip to Borders last Saturday as well as two shiny new books. You can see the three CDs and one of the two books in the embedded image. So let's start with the books. The one you can see here is the first volume of Azumanga Daioh which I absolutely love, I can't wait to get the chance to purchase the other three volumes, it's good stuff. The second book which isn't pictured is entitled 'Learning Python' and is this hefty programming book, I know a little bit of Python but I'm hoping this will help reinforce my knowledge.

The music, ooh the music, some delightful stuff here, totally varied. The top case is actually a two CD compliation of some brilliant trance songs hand picked and mixed together by Above and Beyond, an excellent collection of tracks, a paticular favourite of mine being 'Civilization' by Dinka, good stuff. The second CD down is Moby's 'Play' which I've been meaning to get for a while to add to my colelction of Moby CDs which is ever growing. It has a number of songs on it which originally got me into Moby including 'Southside' and 'Porcelain' which has the somewhat famous intro chords, or at least famous in my mind as I've heard them in very many places. The third and final CD is Enigma's 'A Posteriori' which I've had in my Amazon basket ready to purchase for quite a while, but luckily I found it for about half the price at Borders, £4.99, what a bargain. It has the song on it, 'Sitting On The Moon', which I've been looking for recently, and finally I have it, along with some other cracking songs like 'Goodbye Milky Way' and 'Hello and Welcome'.

Mid-week I'll hopefully post about some individual modern pop songs I've found, my library on shuffle and Fightstar's new EP, Mercury Summer.

I wrote this lovely post...

And I lost it all by saying something stupid like I love you....

No, really I pressed Ctrl+R (hard refresh) instead of Ctrl+T (new tab) and lost another rather hefty blog post. So it's got me thinking (further) that maybe I should switch my blogging base. I've used Wordpress in the past and it's pretty decent and I'm also currently using Blogger. So maybe I should move to one of them. I'll be thinking about it, but no new music-based blog post right now though sorry.

Silly me.

Mirror's Edge and Youtube

First thing's first, I bought Mirror's Edge a week or so ago and it's a fantastic game. Although, I have to say I'm slightly disappointed in one main area. The musical score. There's nothing of it! I bought the game originally due to the absolutely fantastic music used in the adverts (first and original and the PC version), alas however that's the only good song to be found in the game, and only on the menu and at the very end (which I have to say was a little short cut but the choice of the song I'm talking about was fantastic, absolutely fantastic, but the audio quality was terrible). Overall good game, shame about the score. The soundscapes were pretty good, loud, but good though.

Onto my second main topic, Youtube. Recently there have been some (more) legal issues regarding the highly popular video sharing site, and as of recently they have been blocking UK users from viewing certain musical videos. What a pain huh? But that wasn't my main point, my main point was to link to some awesome musical videos that I can watch that I'm enjoying at the moment. So here we go:

And that's not even a third of the videos that I've been wanting to get the music of. My list of music to get just doesn't get any shorter!

In other news I got some new headphones, some Sennheiser HD201's. Gwah, they are beautiful. They are so clear, yes the bass is possibly lacking slightly, but heck, who cares? It's so crisp and lovely, they have greater sound reduction for external environmental sounds and I highly recommend them. I bought them from Amazon for just over £10. Good stuff. (I actually bought them for about £16 but they've been reduced in price now. Ack. Ah well, go grab them while you can!).

Anyway, that's enough for this update, I've got much more to talk about though including Above and Beyond's radio show, various other songs I've picked up, and going through my current music collection. Oh my, so much to talk about.
