Doggy Devotion- Endal
This is a true story about the special relationship which exists between a human being and a dog.

My name is Endal. I am a yellow Labrador dog. For the last few weeks I have been training at Canine Partners. They are teaching me how to look after a disabled person. It is hard work, but I really enjoy it and everyone here is caring and a treat to work with. I love to learn new tricks and it makes me happy to please.

It is a lovely sunny day and the training has been quite intense today. I am sitting in the shade taking a break. Hello who is this coming? Oh it's Sandra that lovely lady that sometimes takes us for a walk. Who is that she is pushing in a wheelchair? Let me edge a little nearer. Ah she sounds as if she is very close to this man. I do believe that it must be her husband.

Now she has kissed him and left him alone. I think she has gone to do her work. I wonder what happened to him? Poor man he looks very dejected and alone. I think that I will take a closer look.

What did she call him? Ah yes I remember it was Allen. Hello Allen. He is reaching out to me to pat my head. He is trying to say something but I don't understand. I am now looking into his eyes and oh I feel that I must help this man. He is suffering so much. I am jumping onto his lap to show him that I love him and care about him.

This is the man that I want to devote my life and service to. He is not able to speak very well, but I seem to know exactly what he wants. I can understand his hand signals. He is touching his head. Ah that means I am to fetch his cap.
A touch on his cheek. Fetch his razor. Hands up. He needs his gloves.

Tugs have been added to all the cupboards, drawers and even the toilet seat so that I can open or lift. It is all exciting for me. Why Allen even trusts me to fetch his cash from the ATM. I put things in his shopping trolley at the supermarket. I enjoy shopping.

This must be a special day, Allen has his best suit on and Sandra looks great.Who are all these people? They look rather important. What is that man saying? Something about PDSA whatever that is.

A very impressive looking lady is coming towards me with something in her hand. They called her HRH Princess Alexandra, WoW! She is hanging it around my neck. It is a Gold Medal. But why me?

Ah now they are talking about that day in the supermarket car park. I remember. A reversing car knocked Allen out of his wheelchair. He hit his head and I could not wake him up with a kiss. I was worried but I recalled my training. Roll him over to the recovery position. Pull his blanket over him. Nudge his cell phone near to his head. Now run and get help.

It is a very nice medal but I was just doing my duty. You see I love this man and have devoted my life to him. Thank you. Endal
