The Right To FREE Speech Under The Constitution:

WORD-UP:

The Right To Free Speech:

The constitution of The USA provides for the right to free speech. This is one of the most cherished rights that is espoused by the constitution. In relation to the current video that is being shown on CNN television, and the Internet, about some pastor, whom Senator Barack Obama claims to have christened his children, facilitated his marriage ceremony, and whose church he attends, as a member.

This video alluded to above, seem to suggest some inflammatory pronouncements by the pastor about America's behavior abroad over the decades. And which seem to be a bone of contention by the local media and others, who feel that it was wrong, and un-patriotic of the pastor to make such allegations. And that Barack Obama may lose face or political credibility from this message.

The Senator has voiced his concern and distaste for these pronouncements. But the media seem not to believe his remarks, and is speculating that this video may continue to be aired on the Internet, and may cause the senator some political losses down the road.

SUMMARY:

Personally, I think that Senator Obama should have told the media and the American people that the pastor is just indulging in Freedom Of Speech, and has not said anything that would encourage national insurrections, hate for any group or people, or advocate for the killing of anyone or group. Even though the Senator may not agree with most of what was said by the pastor, the senator could not STOP, or Prevent his pastor from making such statements now or in the future.

Could a Roman Catholic believer denounce the POPE for his position on abortion, and still be a catholic? I say YES, he or she would still be a Catholic, even though he or she may disagree with some Papal Bull's pronouncements against homosexuality or abortion!

The Internet-A Free Medium For Expression!

Gone are the days when if you had something to say of substance, or wanted to reach large volumes of readers, you had to purchase space in a newspaper, time on radio, or publish a book. With the advent of The World Wide Web, all you need is an Internet connection, a computer & modem, and all of your wishes (almost), will be realized via this medium.

There was a time when I wanted to publish my Poetry, and the voluminous articles that I had written and accumulated over the years, but could not afford a periodical publication in the local press. Nor could I have imagined the possibility of reaching thousands, all in one go, or with the click on a button.

Today, this opportunity via the Internet has provided me with volumes of readers from all over the world. I have chatted and made friends hitherto impossible with Pen Pals or local postal mailing. The cost would have been too great. And the time for letters and responses takes too long, to move from person to person in the traditional fashion.

So I welcome The Web with open arms, and has been exploiting it to the best of my ability. But caution must be observed, Today there is so much information being disseminated via the Internet, that it is very difficult to ascertain "truth from falsehood" However, with experienced eyes, vigilant and analytic minds, one could in time decipher different types of propaganda, from objective reporting, to journalistic information.

Let us respect this medium, and be mindful of our fellows, all of whom have something to say at some time or another. Move on if we do not appreciate someone's opinion. Debate issues, welcome different opinions, and encourage participation at all times.

And remember, even The Dull & Ignorant have a Role To Play in this Cosmic Drama!

Om Shanti.

What Is FREE Speech?

What Is Free Speech Really:

Free speech to my understanding, is the ability for the individual/s in society to voice his or her opinions, via the established media, the Internet, or face to face, or in a social setting. The right of free speech is as natural as mating or procreation. And to control or prevent this natural right to communicate with fellow humans, is evil, controlling, and inhibits normal human interaction.

But on the other hand, free speech must also be mindful of content, target audience, and the effect that the substance of that communique will have on the body politic, or social setting. Free speech must be mindful of divulging information entrusted to the receiver in confidence, or classified. Failing to observe confidential information that was intended for the receiver's eyes or ears only, connotes dis-respect, and blackmail.

That is why in every culture there is an established code of conduct with regard to individual privacy. Failing to observe certain parameters in social interaction, and social discourses, creates a situation of distrust, fear, mischief, and contempt.

It was Sir. Winston Churchill who said prior to the Normandy Invasion these words. "Loose lips-sink ships." This was in regard to the secrecy of the forthcoming invasion of Normandy, and the lethal consequences that can result, should the Germans get wind of these plans.

Therefore, free speech has personal responsibility that goes with it. Disregarding circumstance, custom, discretion, and personal privacy, can have dire consequences when we allow free rein , or wanton dis-regard for it's consequences.
