    The Courts is a small garden and a lovely mix of the formal and the natural. It's one of our favourite places to visit because it makes for a delightful afternoon trip out - not too far away and not too large.

    Another National Trust property. Near Romsey in Hampshire Mottisfont Abbey has the beautiful River Test running through its grounds. It also has the largest known example of the London Plane tree in its near to the house.

    Another beautiful Sunday afternoon; another trip out to see the autumn colours. This time to Gloucestershire to visit Westonbirt Arboretum which holds the national collection of Japanese maples. A spectacular colour display from green through yellow to the deepest scarlet. As you'll see it's enormously popular and a visual feast before the dark days of winter.

    It was a lovely October afternoon and my wife and I drove out to Stourhead Estate, about 10 miles from our home.
    Stourhead is owned and managed by the National Trust and is beautiful all year round but especially so during the autumn.
