Bristol took a step closer to the semi-finals of the RFU Championship - but not as emphatic a step as they would have wished. A strong first half performance was followed by a tense second period.

Six Nations roll on

, , , ...

The Six Nations Tournament continued last weekend with matches in Cardiff, Paris and Rome. The weekend kicked off with the match between Wales and Scotland. Both teams were eager to have a win to kick-start their season, having both lost in the first round of matches.

Scotland will wonder how they lost this game having dominated much of it - until the last five minutes, during which they were reduced to 13 men and Wales scored 17 points to take a 31-24 victory.

In Paris France showed themselves to be the Tournament favourites as they comprehensively outplayed the Irish to come away with a comfortable win by 33 points to 10.

England would have wished to build on their success over Wales in the previous round - and, indeed, they did win by 17 points to 12. But his was a far from impressive performance. Had Italy won the game at the end England could hardly have complained. While Italy showed endeavour, England appeared to lack passion, skill or even a game plan.

There's a week off before the next round of matches.

One or two "fringe" squad members were also included, most notably the half backs, Sam Alford and Chris Ashwin.
