Breastfeeding Is Good For Mother And Baby

Kuala Belait - Thirty mothers yesterday gathered in Suri Seri Begawan (SSB) Hospital, Kuala Belait, to participate in an oneminute synchronised Breastfeeding Worldwide campaign held throughout hospitals in the districts to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week this August. At 10am sharp, mothers concurrently breastfed their children for one minute in an effort to raise breastfeeding awareness.
In conjunction with World Breastfeeding Week, various activities will take place throughout the districts. In Belait, SSB will be holding a family day on August 31 by organising a bazaar that will include a garage sale, stalls selling Asian foodstuff and children's entertainment.
According to SSB hospital Acting Nursing Officer, Hajah Yuliana binte Abdullah, all the sale proceeds using coupons will be contributed to the Belait Breastfeeding Fund in Kuala Belait.
The hospital hopes that mothers will breastfeed their children exclusively for two years, and make it a daily task.
According to Hajah Yuliana, breastfeeding in an appropriate manner is nutritious and helps prevent babies from any diseases, such as diarrhea or SID, and that breast milk is more economical in comparison to buying formula' milk.
