Thanksgiving For 40-Yr Reign

One of the ceremonies was organised by the Royal Brunei Police Force at the surau in the Police Headquarters in Gadong.
The police force ceremony was attended by the Commissioner of Royal Brunei Police Force, Pehin Datu Kerma Setia Dato Paduka Seri Zainuddin Jalani.
Also present were directors, formation commanders, com manding officers, rank and file members, members of the association for retired police officers (Polsara), new recruits under training, as well as the Penghulu and heads of villages of Mukim Gadong.
The short and simple ceremony at the packed surau consisted of mass recital of the Yasin and the special thanksgiving doe as prepared in advance by the State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia (Dr) Ustaz Hj Awang Abdul Aziz Juned.
Aside from the thanksgiving ceremony for His Majesty, the Sultan Sharif Ali Islamic University (Unissa) also held a Khatam al-Quran yesterday.
Carrying the theme "To Strengthen Ukhwah Piety", the Unissa ceremony was attended by Pengiran Dato Seri Setia Dr Hj Mohammad Pengiran Hj Abd Rahman, Minister of Education.
Also at the ceremony was the deputy minister of education, the rector and officers of Unissa, lecturers, tutors, staff and students.
The ceremony began with the Khatam Al-Quran performed by the students followed by thanksgiving prayers for His Majesty's 40th year on the throne and thanksgiving prayers in celebration of the first student intake of Unissa since it was established in August.
The university, which is comprised of 120 students, is currently running courses in Syariah, Usuluddin, Lughah and Business Management in Islamic Finance.
The ceremony was held in celebration of the month of Ramadhan and to celebrate the university's first batch of students with the completion of 30 juz of the al-Quran.
The ceremony was also aimed at encouraging welfare practice during Ramadhan and to strengthen and unite Ukhwah within Unissa, among the students, staff, lecturers and tutors.
Also yesterday, the Minister of Culture, Youth & Sports joined students at the Youth Development Centre for the centre's annual Khatam al-Quran ceremony.
Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Dewa Major General (Rtd) Dato Seri Pahlawan Haji Awang Mohammad bin Hj Daud, Minister of Culture, Youth & Sport participated in the Khatam ceremony along with approximately 150 students from the Youth Development Centre.
The event is the third of its kind since the centre was established in 2005.
Thirty members from the Youth Development Centre, including nine of its staff managed to complete the reading of the al-Quran during the month of Ramadhan.
Previous years saw 80 people; both staff members and students had successfully completed the reading and recital of the al-Quran at the prayer hall of the Youth Development Centre.-- Courtesy of The Brunei Times
