University Of East Anglia Works For Bruneians

Bandar Seri Begawan - Bruneian students have an acute advantage both academically and socially when overseas, as most of them are proficient in the English Language.
This was reiterated by a representative from the University of East Anglia (UAE), England, who is on his second visit here to provide information to students.
"The advantage that Bruneian students have is that their English is very good compared to others,” Mark Barlow remarked. "It means they can make friends the very first day, rather than practising English for the first two or three months."
The 'upper-hand' would allow them to comprehend and grasp lectures more effectively where everything is taught in English. "So Bruneians have no problems academically at all," he said.
When asked why Bruneians should choose UEA, when they have the choice of enrolling in Cambridge or Oxford? He responded, "They'll have a very different educational experience in the classroom (lectures). The way we teach is not dissimilar from other top universities. We actually make sure the students have an academic supervisor to help them.
UEA has invested heavily in the last five years, spending some 200 million pounds on facilities. "We have spent proportionately more than any other university in the last five years. That has helped move us into the top 20, hopefully top 10 in the next few years. That's what we're aiming at," he pointed out.
Furthermore, a national student survey conducted in the UK has indicated that students at UEA are quite content. "The survey asks how happy they are ... and we have been ranked top five consecutively in the last three years," said Barlow, who did not fail to point out that a number of UEA graduates are in key positions today.
